Portable gas camp stoves are still permitted at this time. For more information on wildfires in Pennsylvania visit www.dcnr.pa.gov or by contacting the Forest District office at 717-352-2211.
- Campfire Alert: Fires are prohibited March 1st through May 25th without authorization from District Forester, or when fire danger is high, very high, or extreme. Conditions can be found by calling the forest district office or checking local fire danger signs. For more information visit dcnr.pa.gov
- Road and Travel Alert: Camping and travel to these sites are at your own risk. Be aware of road and weather conditions and your experience. State forest roads are not maintained in the winter and often become snow covered, icy and potentially impassable.
- Group Size Limits: Large groups require district forester authorization. If your group is larger than 10, please call or email the forest district office directly. However, this site may not accommodate large groups. Please check details, maximum occupancy may be less than 10.
- Firewood and Insect Alert: Bringing firewood into PA is prohibited and could result in a citation. To protect the forest from invasive insects that can kill trees, do not transport firewood over long distances. Inspect your vehicle, gear, etc. before you leave. For more information, visit extension.psu.edu.

COORDINATES: 40.01116, -77.40105 (click for directions or enter Google Plus Code: 2H6X+FH8 Walnut Bottom, Pennsylvania into Google Maps). Do not rely solely on apps to navigate. State forest maps can be found at: https://www.dcnr.pa.gov/StateForests/FindAForest/Michaux/Pages/Maps.aspx - Description: You will NOT be able to see your vehicle from the campsite. Freshwater spring (water not tested) runs into a springhouse 30 yards from campsite.
- Campsite: This campsite does not receive routine maintenance and may not accommodate all types of camping. Check site details, notes, and photos to help determine if site is suitable for your equipment and desired experience
- Be Prepared: State forests are managed to provide primitive, low-density recreation opportunities within large tracts of forest land and have limited or no amenities. Campsites are often remote and isolated from other sites. Campsite may be located on a remote dirt and gravel forest road. Carry a paper map and study directions prior to trip. Access is not guaranteed. Due to state forest road conditions and limitations and minimally improved driveways and sites, visitors should be confident in their driving capabilities and realistic in their vehicle limitations and clearances when selecting a site. It is recommended that the campsite and route used to the site is investigated before attempting to take trailers and large vehicles to the site. 4WD vehicles may be recommended for some sites year-round, check notes.
- Restrooms and Sanitation: Restroom facilities are not available at most campsites, please check attributes. Where they are not, campers are encouraged to store or remove waste using a holding tank, portable toilet or other means; or, follow other Leave No Trace principles. Some campsites may require use of self-contained portable toilets.
- No Modern Amenities: There are no electric, water, sewer hook-ups, or dump stations on state forest land. Campers are advised to bring their own water.
- Trash and Litter: All campsites are carry in, carry out. Please be prepared to take your trash with you. All trash and refuse generated by campers must be removed from state forest land.
- Communication: Cell phone coverage is not available or reliable.
- Wildlife: Bears and other animals frequent state forests. All food must be stored appropriately.
- Safety: Hunting, trapping. And other forms of outdoor recreation are permitted on state forest land. Be aware of what is in season. Campers are advised to wear florescent orange during hunting seasons.
- Emergencies: DCNR Rangers patrol where available but state forests are large and dispersed tracts of land and coverage may be limited. Do not expect routine patrols or check-ups at night. You are responsible for your personal safety. In the event of an emergency, call 911. Cell phone service is not required for 911, but if attempting to call other resources (e.g. towing company, etc.) for assistance, cell phone service may be limited so travelling to locate it may be required. Campsite coordinates are listed on permit. For other issues which are not of urgent safety concern, collect any helpful information and report to the forest district office. Staff will contact you during normal business hours.
- Recreation: Please remember to practice Leave No Trace Principles, be prepared, stay safe, and observe proper trail etiquette during your visit.
- YOU will be held responsible for the condition of your site when you leave!
- Camping Policy: In addition to the permit conditions and the state forest rules and regulations, campers must adhere to any district camping policies. The Michaux State Forest Camping Policy can be found online at: https://www.dcnr.pa.gov/StateForests/FindAForest/Michaux/Pages/Camping.aspx
