Just 33 miles west of Portland, the park offers camping, picnicking, disc golf, horseback riding, mountain biking (cross-country and freeride), a fenced off-leash dog area, hiking, orienteering course, and Discovery Depot Visitor Center.
Over 20 miles of natural surface trails within the park provide access to the paved 21- mile Banks-Vernonia State Trail.
Year-round Day-Use Fee Park; valid OPRD Day-Use permit or camping permit, annual or two-year pass must be displayed in vehicle when parked.
Check-in time is 4pm, early check-in is not permitted for Cabins. Check-out is 1pm.

Before reserving, please become familiar with the particulars of your chosen site, including the size of the tent pad area and the type of equipment that you may bring to the park. Site details and tent pad sizes can be viewed online by clicking on the site name.

Facilities
Full-hook up multi-use sites, walk-in tent sites, primitive hike-in tent sites, and cabin camping (3 pet friendly) open year-round and available by reservation only.
Full-hook up equestrian camping offered April through October.
Special facilities include two meeting halls and an open picnic shelter available for reservation.

This park may be confused with Joseph Stewart County Park, which is located in Southern Oregon.

Only one vehicle is included with standard camp fees. A second vehicle kept at a campsite (or alternate parking area) is subject to a nightly Extra Vehicle fee.
The nightly Extra Vehicle fee is currently $7.00.


The Mountain Dale Cabin Village will be closed for construction, May 27 - June 5.
AND
The Mountain Dale Cabin Village will be closed for tree thinning activity, September 15 - 27.

Parking is extremely limited. There is no parking near the campsites for visitors coming out to visit for the day. Day Use parking available at Hilltop Day Use area.
Campsite visitors who are not staying the night must pay the $5 Day Use fee or have an annual Day Use pass.
Both campground loops:
Sites are spacious and open. There is not a lot of vegetation between the sites.
Tents may be put up in each site however metal tent stakes must be used. The tent pad area is packed gravel and plastic stakes will not work.
All equipment must be contained within the gravel site, including tents and shade covers.
Check-in is allowed at 4:00 pm or later, Check-out is by 1:00 pm for campsites -11:00 am for cabins and is strictly enforced.

Same-day reservations are available at this park, please verify your dates prior to booking. Reservations for eligible campsites can be made up until 11:59pm of arrival day (exception: ADA site reservations can be booked only by calling (800)452-5687 or by registering at the park ranger entry station. Online cabin and yurt reservations can be made until 5:59 p.m. of arrival day. Please do not occupy a site without registering. Seasonal first come, first serve status and closures still apply at eligible parks.

Smoking is permitted in campsites, camping units, and inside personal vehicles only. Smoking in Cabins not permitted.
