Help us keep our cabins looking good. Refrain from graffiti of any kind, including writing your initials on any surface of this public use cabin. This constitutes vandalism of a park resource, punishable by a fine of $320 per 11 AAC 12.240.
GPS Coordinates: N 64° 50.50' W 146° 30.83'
The cabin measures 10' X 12'. Three single plywood platform bunks can sleep three adults.
The cabin is supplied with a wood stove, table, seats, broom, ax, saw, and shovel. All other camping equipment and supplies must be provided by the user. The trailhead is located on the south side of 31.4 mile Chena Hot Springs Road with a maximum stay of 5 nights per month. Winter Access: by snowmachine, dog team, skis, or snowshoes. The 7 mile trail is marked with green diamonds starting at the Chena River. As you enter onto the river, travel west approximately 0.5 miles until at the green marker, noting the trail, you cross the river. There is often thin ice or open water, even in late winter, so use caution. Summer Access: The 31.4 mile trail access is not appropriate for summer use. The Southfork trail goes to the Nugget Creek Cabin and forms the boundary of the non motorized area within Chena River State Recreation Area. The cabin can only be accessed once the Chena River freezes over and often this doesn't occur until December. Access to the Nugget Creek Cabin via the new Mastodon Trail at mile 38.6 Chena Hot Springs Road is 13.5 miles long. Winter access is strenuous due to deep snow at higher elevations and should only be attempted by the most physically fit and prepared outdoor enthusiasts.
