Many parks fill to capacity on weekends and holidays. Pre-purchase a day pass and guarantee your entry and parking. Day passes are:
- Valid until 10 p.m., unless the park closes earlier.
- Available up to 1 month in advance.
- Not transferrable to another person or park.
- Also sold at the park, if available.
Driving Directions
We recommend visitors planning to check in at Big Bend Ranch State Park interior at Sauceda or Fort Leaton take HWY 67 South & all visitors planning to visit Barton Warnock or river campsite take HWY 118 south.
From Alpine, TX Take US 67 west to Marfa, then south to Presidio. Take FM 170 East 3 miles to reach Fort Leaton, or East 5 miles to the Casa Piedra Road. From the Casa Piedra Road follow signs 27 miles to the Sauceda Visitor Center.

From Alpine, TX take FM 118 south to Study Butte. Take FM 170 west to the Barton Warnock Visitor Center.

PARK HUNT DATES:
Oct. 6-9, 13-16, Nov.17-20, Dec. 1-4, Jan 4-8
The interior areas of the park will close at 5pm the day before the first day of the hunt and will reopen at 2pm on the last day of the hunt.
Day Entrance for the interior will not be available in advance around the beginning and end of public hunts.
The following dates are walk up only:
For Oct. 12 Nov. 16, Nov. 30, and Jan. 4, you can enter at 8am, but you must vacate the park by 5pm.
Oct. 9, Oct. 16, Nov. 20, Dec. 4, and Jan. 8, you cannot enter the park before 2pm.
All sites and trails accessible from Sauceda will be closed during the hunts. Sites and trails on the river corridor remain open.

May 14, 2025 - The interior of the park will be closed October 1 - October 5 for wildlife management activities. River corridor areas such as boat ramps and trails, as well as and Fort Leaton and Barton Warnock Center, remain open during this time.
December 10, 2024 - The Sauceda Bunkhouse is closed until further notice due to a wastewater issue.
January 1, 2023 - The Sauceda Ranger Station is open 9:00am to 5:00pm Sunday through Friday and 10:00am to 3:00pm Saturdays. Limited services are available.

January 8, 2023 - The main park road to the Sauceda Ranger Station is open to all vehicles. The road east of Sauceda is accessible by 2WD high clearance vehicles. The Road to Nowhere and Lower Shutup trailhead are closed until further notice. All roads are rugged and unpaved. Be prepared.
During the rainy season (May - September) we recommend contacting the Barton Warnock Visitor Center for updates on road conditions before visiting the park.
All roads in the interior of the park are unpaved. The Main Park Road is in good condition and is navigable by most vehicles. Conditions change with rain so always call ahead for the latest road conditions.

If your plans change, please modify or cancel your reservation as soon as possible to allow someone else to enjoy the park.

If you arrive after dark and are unfamiliar with the park road system or the location of your campsite, you may camp at the Botella Junction late arrival area and call a Visitor Center in the morning.

There is no reliable cell signal in the park and you should not use GPS to navigate directly to your campsite. Orientation maps are available 24/7 outside of each Visitor Center. Always orient yourself before driving into the park.
No fuel is available in the park.
Showers, restrooms, and ice are available 24/7 at the Sauceda Ranger Station.

DAILY VISITATION FEES: Daily visitation fees are in addition to Campsite or Day Use Facility fees.
POTENTIAL COST SAVER: All State Parks charge a daily visitation fee in addition to facility & camping fees. Before you check in at the park, ask if you can save by purchasing a Texas State Park Pass. With a pass you and your guests will enjoy unlimited visits for 1-year to more than 90 State Parks, without paying the daily visitation fee, plus other additional benefits. All pass sales are final. There are no refunds for passes and no extensions regardless of weather or park closures.
EXCESS VEHICLE FEES: An excess vehicle fee will be charged for all vehicles over the limit of 2 per site.
CHECK IN: All campers are required to check in at the park headquarters before occupying a site.
PETS: Big Bend Ranch, a vast and wild area, is different from other Texas parks. If you bring your dog, please pay special attention to the Park's policy on dogs to ensure a perfect visit for you & other visitors, & at the same time, safeguard the park and all its resources. Dogs are only allowed to be a ¼ mile from campsites or designated roads. The trails that dogs are allowed on are the Closed Canyon and Hoodoos Trail on FM 170. Dogs are not allowed on any other trails, in the backcountry, or in any buildings, including the Big House & Bunkhouse at Sauceda Headquarters. Keep your dog on a leash no longer than 6 ft & all droppings should immediately be picked up with a bag and properly disposed of in a trash receptacle.
HORSES: For Parks that allow horses - All horses entering the park, must have a negative Coggins test less than 12 months old.
ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES: Public consumption or display of an alcoholic beverage is prohibited.
FIREWOOD: Gathering of firewood is prohibited.
WILDLIFE: Feeding of wildlife is prohibited.
