Description:

Wilmington Notch is located beside the Ausable River and accommodates fishermen looking to challenge the rapids in search of a great catch. Olympic Whiteface Mountain is on the other side of the river and offers a gondola ride to the summit with a great view for miles. Lake Placid Olympic Village is a short 8 miles from this campground, offering unlimited attractions. The campground is situated in a birch and pine grove at the base of Whiteface Mountain.

Geography:

Wilmington Notch Campground is located in the Adirondacks, next to the Ausable River, at the base of Whiteface Mountain.

Recreation:

Trout fishing is excellent in the nearby west branch of the Ausable River. For both the experienced and inexperienced hiker, Wilmington Notch Campground offers easy access to many Adirondack High Peak Wilderness trails.

Facilities:

Campsites, hot showers, flush toilets, a trailer dump station, and a recycling center are among the park's amenities.

Nearby Attractions:

For sightseers, Wilmington Notch is the ideal campground. It is five miles from Santa's Workshop, one mile from High Falls Gorge (a series of spectacular falls on the west branch of the Ausable River), and seven miles from the Whiteface Mountain Memorial Highway, which winds its way to the summit of the majestic mountain. Also, just minutes away, in the Lake Placid vicinity, are the other Olympic venue sites.

Alerts and Important Information

  • To insure fairness for all NY customers, any reservation with departure dates outside the 9-month Maximum Window can not be changed or cancelled until 18 days after the reservation was made.
  • Your garbage must be taken to a recycling area at designated times for processing. Clear plastic bags are required. Instructions will be provided directing you to the proper recycling policies.
  • Use extreme caution on steep banks when accessing the fishing river.
  • All persons entering the campground must be registered.
  • Upon arrival campers must have their camping equipment and be prepared to set up.
  • No permits will be issued and no unregistered sites will be occupied between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m.
  • Check in time is 12 noon until 9:00 p.m. Campers must register and occupy their site by 9:00 p.m. on the first night of their reservation.
  • Check out time is 11 a.m. Campers must vacate their campsite no later than 11:00 a.m. on the date the camping permit expires.
  • No one under 18 years of age can reserve a site or be issued a camping permit. Campers under 18 years of age must be accompanied by someone 18 years of age or older.
  • You must sign for your own site. No one else may register a site for you.
  • Occupancy is limited to 6 people per site.
  • Two tents or one unit of hard wheeled camping equipment and a tent is allowed per site.
  • The names of all campers staying on a site must be listed on the camping permit when you first register at the facility.
  • Two vehicles are allowed per site. Additional vehicles will be charged a daily fee and cannot be parked at the site.
  • Length Of Stay: A camping permit can only be issued for a maximum of two weeks. From July 1 through Labor Day, only 14 cumulative days of camping can be obtained at any campground. This is to ensure that new campers can enjoy their right to camp. Reservations may not be honored if you have more than 14 days cumulative camping between July 1 and Labor Day at the campground.
  • Quiet hours are from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. and are strictly enforced. Campers not listed on the camping permit are not allowed in the facility during these hours. Generators may not be operated during these hours.
  • A recycling area is available for refuse disposal.
  • To cancel a reservation more than 2 days prior to the date of your arrival, cancel online or contact ReserveAmerica at 1-800-456-2267 To cancel a reservation within 2 days of your arrival, please call the campground at 518-946-7172.
  • Possession of firearms, fireworks or the operation of chainsaws is strictly forbidden.
  • Handicapped Access Sites: Sites that are accessible to the disabled are for mobility impaired people only. At least one member of the camping party staying on the site must be mobility impaired (for example, in a wheelchair or uses a walker) or the camping party will be turned away at the campground.
  • Refunds will not be made except in cases of bona fide emergencies, such as a death in the family, serious accident, or illness.
  • Pets are allowed with proof of current/valid rabies vaccination. Campers can walk a dog on a leash no longer than 6 feet as long as the dog is under control. Dogs can not be left unattended. Pets are not allowed in day use areas, beaches or any structures.

From the Northway (I-87) northbound: Take Exit 30, Route 73 North, to Lake Placid. Follow Route 86 through Lake Placid. The campground will be on the left, eight miles past Lake Placid. From the Northway (I-87) southbound: Take Exit 34, Route 9N South, to Jay. Follow Route 86 south to Wilmington; the campground will be on the right side of the road, four miles west of the village. From Tupper Lake: Take Route 3 East to Saranac Lake. Follow Route 86 through Lake Placid. The campground will be on the left, eight miles past Lake Placid.
