Description:

Watkins Glen State Park is the most famous of the Finger Lakes State Parks, with a reputation for leaving visitors spellbound. Within two miles, the glen's stream descends 400 feet past 200-foot cliffs, generating 19 waterfalls along its course. The gorge path winds over and under waterfalls and through the spray of Cavern Cascade. Rim trails overlook the gorge. Campers and daytime visitors can enjoy the Olympic-size pool, modern playground, scheduled summer tours through the gorge, tent and trailer campsites, picnic facilities, and excellent fishing in nearby Seneca Lake or in Catherine Creek, which is renowned for its annual spring run of rainbow trout.

Watkins Glen State Park is located in the village of Watkins Glen, at the south end of Seneca Lake, in Schuyler County.

Park visitors can enjoy near by fishing, picnicking, modern playground, hiking, camping, hunting, and swimming in our Olympic sized & kiddie pool. There are 19 waterfalls on the Gorge Trail.

The park offers 305 campsites with restrooms, hot showers, dumping stations and firewood for sale. Other offered amenities include food concessions, gift shops, rental pavilion, picnic tables & grills, playing fields, an Olympic sized swimming pool & kiddie pool, modern playgrounds, scenic views, and 19 waterfalls.

Nearby state parks include Robert H. Treman State Park, Buttermilk Falls State Park, Sampson State Park, Taughannock Falls State Park, and Lodi Point State Park. Other attractions are Watkins Glen International Racetrack, Corning Museum of Glass, Seneca Lake Wine Trail

Alerts and Important Information

To insure fairness for all NY customers, any reservation with departure dates outside the 9-month Maximum Window can not be changed or cancelled until 18 days after the reservation was made.

  • To register for a campsite, the camper must be 18 years old and show proper ID.
  • DO NOT leave dogs unattended anywhere in the park. No dogs allowed on Gorge Trail.
  • Pet owners must show current rabies certificate.
  • No beer kegs allowed at the park.
  • Quiet hours are from 10:00 pm and 8:00 am and are strictly enforced.
  • Pool is open from June 21 to Sept 1, 2008
  • Children who are not toilet trained MUST wear swim diapers at the Pool.
  • Mohawk Village / Loop B is the only loop with electric sites at Watkins Glen.


Peak season: A person may be the primary site occupant for 14 total days of camping within a 16 day period. S/he must leave the park for 48 hours once they have stayed the maximum number of days allowed before beginning a new reservation.
