Description:

Located on picturesque Piseco Lake, Little Sand Point Campground offers seclusion and serenity. Campsites are nestled within the hardwood and conifer trees. Piseco Lake offers fishing, canoeing, sailing, and all types of water sports. Numerous hiking trails challenge the day hiker, while the 133-mile Northville-Lake Placid Trail is located just minutes away. A sandy beach offers a guarded swimming area from mid-June to Labor Day.

Geography:

Little Sand Point Campground is located on Piseco Lake, in the central portion of the Adirondack Park. The park sits at an elevation of 1,660 feet, and the terrain is hilly, with well-wooded areas of conifers and hardwoods. The campground was opened to the public in 1953.

Recreation:

Non-motorized boating is welcome, and rowboat and canoe rentals are available, as is a boat launch. Fishing (for walleye, rainbow trout, brown trout, lake trout, smallmouth bass, brown bullhead, perch, rock bass, and white fish) is popular. Swimming and hiking round out the activities.

Amenities include campsites, a sand beach, a boat launch, flush toilets, a pay telephone, a trailer dumping station, and a recycling center.

Alerts and Important Information

  • To insure fairness for all NY customers, any reservation with departure dates outside the 9-month Maximum Window can not be changed or cancelled until 18 days after the reservation was made.
  • There is no day use at this facility.
  • All persons entering the campground must be registered.
  • Upon arrival campers must have their camping equipment and be prepared to set up.
  • No permits will be issued and no unregistered sites will be occupied between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m.
  • Check in time is 12 noon until 9:00 p.m. Campers must register and occupy their site by 9:00 p.m. on the first night of their reservation.
  • Check out time is 11 a.m. Campers must vacate their campsite no later than 11:00 a.m. on the date the camping permit expires.
  • No one under 18 years of age can reserve a site or be issued a camping permit. Campers under 18 years of age must be accompanied by someone 18 years of age or older.
  • You must sign for your own site. No one else may register a site for you.
  • Occupancy is limited to 6 people per site.
  • Two tents or one unit of hard wheeled camping equipment and a tent is allowed per site.
  • The names of all campers staying on a site must be listed on the camping permit when you first register at the facility
  • Two vehicles are allowed per site. Additional vehicles will be charged a daily fee and cannot be parked at the site.
  • Length Of Stay: A camping permit can only be issued for a maximum of two weeks. From July 1 through Labor Day, only 14 cumulative days of camping can be obtained at any campground. This is to ensure that new campers can enjoy their right to camp. Reservations may not be honored if you have more than 14 days cumulative camping between July 1 and Labor Day at the campground.
  • Quiet hours are from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. and are strictly enforced. Campers not listed on the camping permit are not allowed in the facility during these hours. Generators may not be operated during these hours.
  • A recycling center is available for refuse disposal.
  • To cancel a reservation more than 2 days prior to the date of your arrival, cancel online or contact Customer Service at 1-800-777-9644. To cancel a reservation within 2 days of your arrival, please call the campground at 518-548-7585.
  • Possession of firearms, fireworks or the operation of chainsaws is strictly forbidden.
  • Handicapped Access Sites: Sites that are accessible to the disabled are for mobility impaired people only. At least one member of the camping party staying on the site must be mobility impaired (for example, in a wheelchair or uses a walker) or the camping party will be turned away at the campground.
  • Refunds will not be made except in cases of bona fide emergencies, such as a death in the family, serious accident, or illness.
  • Pets are allowed with proof of current/valid rabies vaccination. Campers can walk a dog on a leash no longer than 6 feet as long as the dog is under control. Dogs can not be left unattended. Pets are not allowed in day use areas, beaches or any structures.

From NYS Thruway (I-90), take Exit 27 at Amsterdam; follow Route 30 north approximately 50 miles to the Village of Speculator. Turn left on Route 8 and go west about 11 miles to Old Piseco Road. Turn right; the campground is a few miles down, on the left side of the road. From NYS Thruway (I-90), take Exit 31 at Utica and proceed north on Route 8 approximately 55 miles to Old Piseco Road. Turn left; the campground is a few miles down, on the left side of the road.
