Boston Harbor Islands SP, MADescription:The Boston Harbor Islands are less than an hour's ferry ride from downtown Boston. This national park area has campsites on four of 30 harbor islands and accessible to the public via passenger ferry service or private boat. Camping is available on Lovells, Peddocks, Grape and Bumpkin Islands and reservations are required. The four island campgrounds have no water for flush toilets (composting only), showers or drinking but offer a great primitive experience within sight of the Boston skyline. Interpretive tours and public safety is facilitated by at least two island rangers 24 hours a day. The Park`s waterways are patrolled by local, state and federal enforcement/emergency response authorities. PLEASE NOTE: Peddocks Island is closed to the public in 2008. Only Grape, Bumpkin and Lovells offer camping in 2008. One night minimum stays are accepted. Services & Amenities:
Alerts and Important InformationTo insure fairness for all MA customers, any reservation with departure dates outside the 6-month Maximum Window can not be changed or cancelled until 18 days after the reservation was made. The reservation must be in the name of the primary occupant.

Are you interested in helping this state forest, park or beach by volunteering at a MA state park campground? Group camping rates have changed as follows: Effective April 7th 2005; A $25 per night fee will be collected at the time of reservation. This site fee covers the first 25 people or less. If more than 25 attend, $1 extra per night, per person will be collected at the park. Reservations are not site specific. At checkin, the ranger will assign you a site/area. Fresh water is not available for showers or drinking (campers should bring at least 1 gallon of drinking water per person per day) also no telephones on island. Open fires are not allowed above high tide line. Mfg. fuel burning cook stoves are allowed at camp and picnic sites. Alcoholic beverages, firearms, fireworks, and pets are not allowed on the Boston Harbor Islands. There are no trash receptacles in the park. All visitors and campers must carry out what they carry in. Leave no trace. WARNING: Before departure, contact Ferry office for ferry schedule. Due to the economy and availability of overnight parking, campers are encouraged to depart from the Fore River Shipyard on Rte 3A Quincy.
