PFEIFFER BIG SUR SP, CA

Season for Peak Fees: 05/15 to 09/15

Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park has 1,006 acres of redwoods, conifers, oaks, sycamores, cottonwoods, maples, alders and willows - plus open meadows. Wildlife includes fox, raccoons, skunks, and birds, such as American dippers and belted kingfishers. Hikers can enjoy the many scenic trails, including a self-guided nature loop. Overlooks provide spectacular views of the Big Sur Valley and the Big Sur River Gorge. Campsites are on the valley floor through which the Big Sur River flows. The concessionaire-operated Big Sur Lodge provides motel-type cottage accommodations (1-800- 424-4787). The group picnic sites may be reserved by contacting the park (831-667-2315). Fishing is permitted in-season ONLY and only on the west side of Highway 1.

Alerts and Important Information

Sites 1-71 will be closed until December 31, 2009 due to construction. During Construction, existing reservations for sites 1-71 will be honored. Campers need to be aware that there will be noise and construction Monday through Friday. If visitors with reservations on sites 1-71 would like to cancel due to the construction project, please call Customer Service and a full refund will be issued. No new reservations may be booked for sites 1-71 from now through December 31, 2009. If an existing reservation on sites 1-71 is canceled during this time period it cannot be rebooked.

A majority of the campground, the day use area, and a few trails within Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park will re-open on Friday, July 25. Most trails, including Pfeiffer Falls and the Big Sur River Gorge, will remain closed to the public due to unsafe conditions until further notice.

Discount Pass must be presented at the time of check in.

Group Camps A and B have been closed permanently.

The group picnic areas are reservable by the park only. Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park Campground is Site Specific. All visitors making reservations will choose their site when a reservation is made.

  • Family Sites may be reserved year round.
  • River Premium sites are closed for the winter 11/1 to 3/1 each year.
  • NO Fishing in park!
  • MAXIMUM Occupancy is 8 people per campsite!
  • Due to overhanging trees, there is a maximum RV HEIGHT limit of 12 feet.
  • Fees include entry for 1 vehicle and 1 legally towed vehicle or trailer, additional vehicles will be charged per night at the park. 2 vehicles are allowed, but can ONLY park at the campsite if the vehicle can park INSIDE the parking spur. The campground can only accommodate one RV per site.
