ATTENTION: ATTENTION: Due to fire damage, the Thornhill Broome campground is currently closed but will open on Friday, May 10. Sycamore Canyon campground and the La Jolla Group Camp are closed through May 20; they are tentatively scheduled to open on May 21st. Note that all vegetation in and around the La Jolla Group Camp is burned; group camp is scarred. Regarding Sycamore Canyon, the parameters of the campground and back country are burned. Please check the website for the latest information.

Description

Point Mugu State Park, located in the Santa Monica Mountains, features five miles of ocean shoreline with rocky bluffs, sandy beaches and sand dunes, rugged hills and uplands, two major river canyons, wide grassy valleys dotted with sycamores, oaks and a few native walnuts. There are more than 70 miles of hiking trails. The beach also features swimming, body surfing and surf fishing. The 13,300-acre park includes the jagged pinnacles of the Boney Mountains State Wilderness Area.

Alerts and Important Information
Point Mugu State Park is open. During the winters months, the park may be subject to closure, weather permitting.
Discount Pass must be presented at the time of check in.

Your DMV Disabled Placard/License Plate does not automatically give you a discount on your campsite. You will need to obtain a CA State park-issued Disabled Discount Pass (DDP) or Distinguished Veterans Pass (DVP).

  • Fees include entry for 1 vehicle and 1 legally towed vehicle or trailer, additional vehicles will be charged per night at the park.
  • Park is reservable Year-Round.
  • SYCAMORE CANYON HAS AN INBOUND GATE THAT WILL BE LOCKED at 10:00 p.m. No late night arrivals are permitted. The entrance gates for both Sycamore Canyon and Thornhill Broome open at 8 a.m.
  • Showers are only available for campers registered at Sycamore Canyon. The park recently switched from coin-operated showers to token-operated showers. The token machines accept dollar bills, and you receive 2 tokens for a dollar.
  • Thornhill Broome campground has no showers, chemical toilets, and no shade.
  • To book a Group site you must have at least NINE occupants.

Occupancy by the same persons, equipment, or vehicles of the Angeles District's camping facilities is limited to a total of 30 days in any calendar year. These facilities include: Leo Carrillo State Park Campground, Malibu Creek State Park Campground and Point Mugu State Park campgrounds including Sycamore Canyon and Thornhill Broome

March 16th through October 16th Occupancy is limited to 7 consecutive days in each of the above campgrounds. Following the 7 Day limit there must be a 48 hour period of vacancy beginning 12 noon on the check out day to 12 noon of the second day following before the same person, group, vehicles or equipment may occupy that campground.

October 17 through March 15th Occupancy is limited to 15 consecutive days in each of the above campgrounds. Following the 15 Day limit there must be a 48 hour period of vacancy beginning 12 noon on the check out day to 12 noon of the second day following before the same person, group, vehicles or equipment may occupy that campground.
