BONNY, CODescriptionAn oasis on the plains, Bonny Lake State Park offers a welcomed change from the rolling prairie and grasslands that surround the park. Bonny Lake State Park has colorful vistas in the fall and a variety of year-round recreational opportunities. Enjoy camping, fishing, hunting, hiking, picnicking and wildlife viewing at Bonny Lake State Park. There are two campgrounds with 103 campsites for your enjoyment. Services & Amenities:
Alerts and Important InformationDue to budget reductions, East Beach and North Cove campground have closed permanently. The west side of Foster Grove campground was closed due to falling limbs from trees but the east side with 16 sites (7 electric) will open starting May 1 to first come/first serve campers. Wagon Wheel is open year-round with electric sites and reservable May 1 to Sept 30. New for 2010, all large cottonwoods in Loop E were removed due to falling limbs. Loop E now has no trees or shade. Shower/flush toilet building in Wagon Wheel is open from April 1 to November 1 and vault toilet during the winter months. Visitor center/park office is also closed from October 1 to May 1 for money savings. Daily and camping passes are still required and can be purchased through self-service. Annual passes can be purchased from the ranger on duty. Getting There:Bonny30010 COUNTY RD. 3 Idalia CO 80735 From Denver: Take I-70 east to Burlington, then 23 miles north on U.S. 385. Turn east on County Road 2 (3 1/2 miles to entrance) or 3 (1 1/2 miles to entrance). OR Take I-70 east to Byers, then east on U.S. 36 (approximately 108 miles) to Idalia. Continue east two miles on U.S. 36, then turn south on U.S. 385 for 6 or 7 miles to County Road 2 or 3. The gate entrance on County Road 2 is 3 1/2 miles from highway and County Road 3 is 1 1/2 miles from highway. New for 2010, there will be heavy road construction from 1 mile north of the park on Hwy 385 north for 18 miles.
