ALL (38) DescriptionGaviota State Park is a popular spot for swimming, picnicking and surf fishing. This section of the coast was first called "gaviota" (seagull) by soldiers of the Portola Expedition in 1769. A pier on the west end of the beach is used by divers and surfers. A Southern Pacific railroad trestle crosses the creek above the day-use parking lot. Visitors can explore the upland portions of the park from a trailhead in the parking area. Gaviota Peak offers a view of the coast and the Channel Islands.Services & Amenities:
Alerts and Important Information Rodent Warning Park visitors are advised the park is experiencing an increase in the rodent population such as ground squirrels this year. Ground squirrels can damage property and equipment. While we strive to control rodent populations at this campground park visitors who occupy campsites must take precaution to protect their food and equipment. California State Parks is not responsible for damage to personal property. Discount Pass must be presented at the time of check in. Your DMV Disabled Placard/License Plate does not automatically give you a discount on your campsite. You will need to obtain a CA State park-issued Disabled Discount Pass (DDP) or Distinguished Veterans Pass (DVP). There are high winds experienced at this park, and no refund will be given due to wind conditions.. It is not uncommon to experience winds of 50 mph or more! Fees include entry for 1 vehicle and 1 legally towed vehicle or trailer; additional vehicles will be charged per night at the park. 2013 Reservation Period:
