Natural Features:

The picnic area is located in the Manzanita Mountains just 13 miles from Albuquerque at an elevation of about 7,500 feet. Cool mountain breezes are common in the area, and are a stark but welcome contrast to the desert heat of Albuquerque.

A variety of hiking trails surround the area, and are of varying distances and difficulties. The 13-mile Pine Flats Loop Trail is open to hiking, biking and horseback riding. It begins in the picnic area and connects with multiple trails to make the loop. Some portions are challenging, but the trail goes through scenic areas with spectacular views.

Scenic drives through the area are popular as well.

Facilities:

The picnic area offers two accessible group picnic shelters, each equipped with multiple tables and grills. Each shelter can accommodate up to 50 people. Accessible vault toilets are provided. There is no water available at this facility.
