Overview

Nestled in the Cascade Mountains in the northern corner of the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument, the 745-acre Hyatt Lake Recreation Area provides opportunities for camping, hiking, fishing, and boating. Recreational Use Permits for camping and day-use are required and available on a first-come, first-served basis from the visitor contact station at the facility entrance and at the self-service pay stations located at the main campground entrance and Wildcat Campground. Campgrounds open with the beginning of fishing season in mid-May and close October 31 of each year. A 14-day camping limit is in effect for all campgrounds.

Natural Features:

Hyatt Lake is located 20 miles east of Ashland in Oregon's beautiful Cascade Mountains. At 5,200 feet in elevation, Hyatt Lake offers a cool respite from the summer heat and also serves as a gateway for winter recreation enthusiasts. Hyatt Lake is located inside the boundary of the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument. The Monument was established by presidential proclamation of President William J. Clinton on June 9, 2000 in recognition of its remarkable ecology and to protect a diverse range of biological, geological, aquatic, archaeological, and historic objects. Recreation:

Hyatt Lake is a 10 mph "no-wake" lake. During spring and summer months, Hyatt offers excellent lake trout and small mouth bass fishing. Other recreation activities are available including hiking, swimming, basketball, volleyball and horse shoes. Access points for the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail are easily accessible starting from the campground. Although the campground is closed during winter months, great winter activities are available such as cross-country skiing, sledding and snowmobiling. Designated play areas and over 75 miles of marked snowmobile trails are available for multi-use recreation activities.

Facilities:

The Mountain View Group Shelter, overlooking Hyatt Lake and Mt. McLoughlin, accommodates up to 120 people. It is equipped with an electric stove, running water, tables, and a large fireplace. The reservation of this site does not include any associated campsites. The Osprey Kitchen is a group camping and day-use area accommodating 40 people with a covered cooking area, grill, group fire ring, and walk-in tent sites. The Cascade Meadows Group Site accommodates 60 people with a vault restroom. The main Hyatt Lake Campground has 56 sites, complete with flush toilets, hot showers, a dump station, a fish-cleaning station, and 2 boat ramps with dock facilities.

Nearby Attractions:

Adjacent to the Hyatt Lake Recreation Area is public shoreline and adjacent lands. The Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail intersects the campground and Little Hyatt Lake is within 6 miles of location.

Know Before You Go
A Wildlife Viewing Area on the west side of Hyatt Lake has a picnic area, interpretive displays, and a vault restroom. Birds and wildlife abound in the area.
