Red Hills State Park is the place to be for wooded hills, picturesque meadows, wildlife, wildflowers, soothing Spring breezes, and the briliant hues of autumn's colorful plumage. The park is dominated by Red Hill - the highest point of land between Cincinnati and St. Louis - and bisected by the "Old Cahokia Trace" road which was for many years the principal route from Historic Vincennes, In. to the West. In a treaty signed in Greenville, Oh. by general Anthony Wayne in 1795, the first land in Illinois ceded by Native Americans to the Colonial Government became what is now the western boundary of Red Hills State Park. A satellite of the park, the Chauncey Marsh Nature Preserve, contains Illinois' best remaining example of what is called a Wabash Border marsh ecosystem.

The Trace Inn Restaurant is open year-round offering a spectacular four seasons overlook of Red Hills Lake. Fine dining is enhanced by the rustic atmospere of a rural decor. The restaurant's Holiday Banquet Room can be booked for private parties and meetings (ph. 618-936-2351).

Recreational activities offered at Red Hills iclude: camping, picnicing (with shelters available), trails for hikers, bicyclists, and equestrians, horse shows, hunting, basketball, sand volleyball, boating and fishing.
