    Geography:

The Sunol Wilderness is located near Pleasanton, CA, on the southeastern side of San Francisco Bay. Under the East Bay Regional Park District's multi-use land management policy, cattle continue to gaze in the 6,859-acre wilderness.

    Recreation:

Activities in the Sunol Wilderness include hiking, horseback riding, walking, backpack camping, and picnicking. Indian Joe Cave Rocks provides sport and challenge to rock climbers. Naturalists lead walks, hikes, trail rides, camping trips, and backpacking adventures, and other outings. Visit the Old Green Barn Visitor Center for information about these programs and the self-guided Indian Joe Nature Trail. The Ohlone Wilderness Trail is a popular hiking destination; permits are available by phone, internet or at the Sunol Visitor Center (call ahead or check website for open hours).

    Facilities:

Visitors should bring drinking water, because there is none available in the park.

    Nearby Attractions:

The Sunol Wilderness is near many Northern California attractions. The cities of Oakland and Berkeley are about one hour away, and a longer drive takes visitors to either San Francisco or the Peninsula.

    Skywest Golf Course

The 18-hole Skywest Golf Course facility in Hayward, California features 6,862 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. Tree-lined fairways can cause the usual kinds of trouble for errant tee shots, though large greens tend to play true. The par-3s all play long at 140-200 yards, and two lakes insist that you pay them attention on the front and back nines.
