Overview

Description

Our new bathhouse is complete and we now offer hot showers to make your visit even more pleasurable. It is important to note that fees for campsites in the lower level of the park will see an increase. We look forward to serving you this camping season.

Cascading streams and flowering shrubs abound in Pittsfield State Forest. 65 acres of wild azaleas are a profusion of pink blossoms in June. The forest has two camping areas and a swimming beach. Fishermen frequent scenic Berry Pond, one of the highest natural water bodies in Massachusetts at 2,150 feet. The vista from the top of Berry Mountain is a striking panorama, a good place to watch the sun set.

IMPORTANT: MA State Parks prohibits the transportation of firewood into or out of MA State Park Campground facilities. Arriving customers must get their firewood at the campground. Firewood is available for $5.00 per bundle. Pricing may vary at campgrounds with camp stores. Transportation of firewood into or out of MA State Park Campground facilities may result in eviction, or substantial fine, or both.

Recreation:

DCR offers a limited All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) and Off Highway Motorcycle (OHM) trail system at Pittsfield State Forest. Approximately 20 miles of trails were closed to OHVs in 2010 to protect resources regulated under the Massachusetts Endangered Species Act, (M.G.L. c. 131A). Approximately 16 miles of trails remain for ATV and OHM use. In the interest of public safety, DCR has instituted a required trail permit for ATV and OHM users at Pittsfield State Forest. This process is intended to ensure that overuse of the limited trail system does not present a safety risk to motorized or non-motorized users of the trails. Trail permits are free of charge and may be reserved up to 60 days in advance via email at: ohv-permits@state.ma.us or by calling (413)358-2172.
