Overview

Overview

Lakeside Campground is situated near Rainbow Lake in the midst of a beautiful ponderosa pine forest. It is one of the oldest National Forest campgrounds in the state of Arizona, and a convenient place to stop overnight in the town of Lakeside, off State Route 260. Popular activities include fishing, hiking and sightseeing.

Natural Features:

The campground is located among pines at an elevation of 7,000 feet in the Sitgreaves National Forest of eastern Arizona. Wild turkeys, elk and deer live in the area.

Summer temperatures can be very pleasant because of the elevation. However, the rainy season often brings afternoon thunderstorms from late June through August. Visitors should come prepared for rain and cool nighttime temperatures.

Recreation:

Several hiking trails are within a short drive, such as the Los Caballos Trail. A stable is nearby, where visitors can go on guided horseback rides.

Facilities:

This large facility has nearly 100 campsites organized into several loops. The sites are level and can accommodate tents, trailers and motor homes up to 32 feet in length. Firewood is available, as are vault toilets and an RV dump station. A campground host is on-site for visitor assistance.

Nearby Attractions:

Gas, groceries and restaurants are available in nearby Lakeside.

Visitors can explore endless vistas and take part in many outdoor activities in the surrounding Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, which encompasses 2 million acres of magnificent mountain country in east-central Arizona and New Mexico.
