  • Arriving campers must have camping equipment and be prepared to set up. Only registered campers will be allowed in the park after hours. The park gate is locked nightly.
  • Entrance gate opens at 7 am and closes at dusk

    Overview

    Description

    Chau Ram park is located at the confluence of Ramsey Creek and the Chauga River and is Oconee County’s “Best Kept Secret.” Visitors can enjoy 26 campsites, ready with water and electricity, over three miles of hiking trails and over a mile of Chauga River running through the park with rapids such as the pumphouse rapids, can-opener and the V rapid. The main attractions of the park include a handicap accessible 40 foot waterfall cascading over large boulders as the Ramsey Creek flows into the Chauga River and a 160 foot suspension bridge spanning the Chauga River. Tubing, hiking, fishing, picnicking, camping and sight- seeing are routine activities enjoyed by visitors. The park also includes four rental areas for larger parties and gatherings, a new playground area, and is a favorite site for weddings.

    Geography:

    National Geographic released a Special Publication in November - 2012 titled "50 of the World's Last Great Places - Destinations of a Lifetime". Our remarkable Jocassee Gorges is one of those places. In the northwestern-most corner of South Carolina is Oconee County, known as the "Mountain Lakes Region" because of its climate, its spectacularly beautiful lakes and the beauty of its Blue Ridge Mountains.

    Recreation:

    Today, outdoor recreation, adventure travel and family together time are hot buttons for tourists, and Oconee County offers the perfect setting for an affordable vacation for active families, outdoor types of all ages, couples and retirees. Biking, horseback riding, boating, whitewater rafting, paddling, fishing, hiking, camping, golfing, birding and antiquing are plentiful here. Oconee County includes lakes Hartwell, Keowee and Jocassee, rushing and lazy rivers, including the federally-designated Wild and Scenic Chattooga, endless waterfalls, the Sumter National Forest and the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, all neighboring the mountains of North Carolina and Northeast Georgia, making it within easy access to most of the Southeast.

    Facilities:

    The campground offers 26 campsites. Camp sites have 20, 30 or 50-amp electrical hookup and water. Other amenities include a bathhouse, playground, hiking trails, and a dump station. There are also multiple shelters that may be reserved for family reunions, birthdays, or group get-togethers.

    Directions from I-85 Northbound: Take Exit 1 North Hwy. 11. Proceed about 13 miles to Exit for Hwy. 123 Seneca & Westminster. Go across bridge and take first right. At Stop sign take a right onto North Hwy. 123. Proceed four miles into City of Westminster. Go through traffic light. Bear left at fork and continue on through the next three traffic lights. At fourth traffic light turn right onto West Hwy. 76. Proceed 2.5 miles. At bottom of hill turn left onto Chau Ram Park Road.

    Directions from I-85 Southbound: Take Exit 11. Right on (Hwy 24). Go approximately 15 miles to Westminster. Left onto Hwy 123. . Bear left at fork and continue on through the next three traffic lights. At fourth traffic light turn right onto West Hwy. 76. Proceed 2.5 miles. At bottom of hill turn left onto Chau Ram Park Road.
