The park gates close at sunset. If you plan to arrive late, please contact the park prior to 5 p.m. on the day of your arrival.

Camping on the island park is reservable year-round, but the park is only accessible by private boat or passenger ferry service. Reservations are required for ferry service. Call Captiva Cruises at 239-472-5100 for ferry reservations. Parking is available at the ferry service for a fee.

There is no electricity at the park and there are no stores or restaurants on the island. Generators are not allowed. Ice is for sale at the ranger station. Bring plenty of insect repellent between June and November. Always bring sunscreen. Food should be brought in animal proof containers.

The campground is one mile west down the main campground road from the passenger ferry dock. Tram service is available from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to carry gear and campers to the campground. Before 10 and after 5, campers are responsible for toting their gear in and out.

Pets are allowed in the tent tamping area. They are not allowed in the cabins or cabin areas or on the beach. Owners must pick up after their pets and transport waste material off the island. One ferry service currently transports pets. Contact the service to find out the Pets Onboard status prior to planning a trip with pets.

Pet rules apply. Domestic breeds of dogs (except guide or signal dogs or animals trained to assist individuals with a disability), cats, fur-bearing animals, birds and reptiles are not allowed in food-service areas, cabins or cabin areas, primitive campgrounds, beaches where bathing and swimming are permitted, either land and water portions, park buildings, playgrounds, and areas designated by park management. Captive wild species, whether native or non- native, and barnyard animals, except horses, are not allowed. Pets must be well behaved at all times and confined in the owner's camping unit during quiet hours. Unconfined pets may not be left unattended for more than 30 minutes and must be on a leash no more than 6 feet long. Please do not tie pets to park vegetation, natural or manmade structures or facilities. Pets must be vaccinated. A pet that is noisy, disturbing, intimidating or dangerous to other people or pets, or which damages park resources, will not be allowed to remain in the park.

No one younger than 18 may camp overnight unless accompanied by a responsible adult, who will remain onsite for the period rented.

Overview

Description

Cayo Costa ("key by the coast") is one of the largest underdeveloped barrier islands remaining in Florida. It is located twelve miles west of Cape Coral in Lee County, and is part of a chain of barrier islands that shelter Charlotte Harbor and Pine Island Sound. The island contains unique tropical vegetation, and looks much as it did 500 years ago when the first Europeans arrived.
