ALL (3) OverviewWhiskey Creek Group Picnic Area is located on the northeastern shore of Whiskeytown Lake in the Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, just 14 miles west of Redding, California and three hours north of Sacramento.The Lake offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities for visitors year-round, including kayaking, sailing, fishing, swimming and water skiing. Natural Features:Nestled on the lake shore, Whiskey Creek Group Picnic Area affords beautiful lake views. Whiskeytown is situated where the Klamath Mountains, Cascade and Coast Mountain Ranges and the Sacramento Valley meet, creating a wide variety of wildlife and landscapes. Recreation:The cool, clear waters of Whiskeytown Lake provide endless water activities. Enjoy a free, guided kayak tour through the quiet coves along the shoreline (reservations required), or explore the lake by sailing, boating, swimming, water skiing or fishing. Facilities:This day-use picnic area contains three large group sites with dirt surfaces, each with two large serving tables, numerous picnic tables and a large charcoal barbecue grill. Nearby Attractions:The Tower House Historic District is located just northwest of the lake and dates back before the California Gold Rush-era.. Getting There:GPS Info. (Latitude, Longitude):40.6475, -122.55306 40°38'51"N, 122°33'11"W Take State Route 299 west from Interstate 5. Travel west through Redding and continue approximately 11 miles west. Turn onto Whiskey Creek Road, pass the Whiskey Creek launch area. At the fork in the road, turn right and follow paved road approximately one mile to where it ends at the group picnic area.
