DescriptionOverlooking the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers 19,000-acre Rend Lake Reservoir, Wayne Fitzgerrell State Park is a gateway to Southern Illinois biggest outdoor playground - a paradice for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages and interests. The park offers outstanding opportunities for hunting, fishing, camping, picnicking, horseback riding and other outdoor recreational pursuits. You'd be hard pressed to find a recreational complex with more activities than Wayne Fitzgerrell State Park. Birders visiting the area have an excellent chance of seeing great blue heron, American bald eagle, red-tailed hawk and a variety of shorebirds and waterfowl. The resident population of ring-necked pheasants that Wayne Fitzgerrell supports is unique in Southern Ilinois. White-tailed deer, raccoon, opossum and squirrel, are among the mammals wildlife enthusiasts are likely to see. A 4.2 mile hiking/biking trail provides wonderful hiking/biking and wildlife viewing opportunities. The beautiful Rend Lake Resort located within Wayne Fitzgerrell State Park offers first class accomodations in one of southern Illinois finest Recreation Areas.The site was dedicated and opened in 1975, the park encompasses 3,300 acresof former farmland leased to the Department of Natural Resources by the U. * A responsible adult (18 years of age or older) from the camping party must register for the party and thereby acknowledge compliance with the rules and regulations of the park for the party. * At least one responsible adult must accompany each group of 15 minors. * Special camping rate reductions apply to Illinois residents only. * Group size and number of vehicles cannot exceed the established maximums. * The maximum length of camping stay from May 1 through September 30 is 14 nights in any 30 day period. * Responsible use of alcohol is permitted in the park and campgrounds. * All pets must be on a leash. Pet owners are responsible for their animal's waste and must dispose of it properly. * Groups of 25 or more are required to register in advance with the park office * We hope you enjoy your stay or event.
