DescriptionIMPORTANT: MA State Parks prohibits the transportation of firewood into or out of MA State Park Campground facilities. Arriving customers must get their firewood at the campground. Firewood is available for $5.00 per bundle. Pricing may vary at campgrounds with camp stores. Transportation of firewood into or out of MA State Park Campground facilities may result in eviction, or substantial fine, or both. Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve covers 2,500 acres of coastal upland, wetland, beach and bay on the southern shore of Cape Cod in the towns of Falmouth and Mashpee. Washburn Island, located off the coast in Waquoit Bay, offers hiking trails and a unique primitive camping experience. Access to Washburn Island is by private boat only and is a limited service experience with no fresh water, showers or flush toilets. Services & Amenities:
Alerts and Important Information Access to this primitive camping area is by private boat only. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited in all Massachusetts State Parks and Campgrounds. The reservation must be in the name of the primary occupant. To insure fairness for all MA customers, any reservation with departure dates outside the 6-month Maximum Window cannot be changed or canceled until 18 days after the reservation was made. If you choose to cancel or change your reservation, a $10.00 fee will be charged. The reservation transaction charge is non-refundable. Cancellations made on the day of arrival must be made by contacting the campground and will result in the loss of the first night's camping use fee plus the $10.00 cancellation fee. Fees will be deducted from any refunds due or will be added to future reservations. Refunds of $5.00 or less cannot be processed. If you leave early, please check-out with a ranger. If you are unable to arrive on your scheduled arrival date, you must call the campground. Failure to contact the park by 8:00 A.M. the morning following your scheduled arrival date may result in your campsite being reassigned to another camper and forfeiture of all fees paid. Getting There:Waquoit Bay National Research Estuarine is located on the southern part of Cape Cod, in southeastern Massachusetts. Access to the island is by private boat only. Overnight parking is only available in a large town administered parking area, adjacent to the intersection of Route 28 and White's Landing Road. From Boston:Follow Route 3 South to the Sagamore Bridge over the Cape Cod Canal. Route 3 crosses over the bridge and becomes Route 6. Take Exit 2 (Route 130). Turn right off the ramp and follow 130 South 7 miles to the 4th set of lights at Great Neck Road, turn right onto Great Neck Road and follow it 2 miles to the Mashpee Rotary. Halfway around the rotary, take Route 28 North toward Falmouth/Woods Hole. The reserve is located 3.5 miles from the rotary on the left. From Providence and Points West:Follow Route 495 or 195 to Route 25. Route 25 crosses over the Bourne Bridge and becomes Route 28. Follow Route 28 South to Route 151 (first exit after the Cataumet/Otis ANGB Rotary). Turn right off the ramp and follow 151 east toward New Seabury and the Mashpee Rotary. At the rotary, take Route 28 toward Falmouth/Woods Hole. The reserve is located 3.5 miles fromt he rotary on the left. From Falmouth:Proceed south on Route 28 (toward Mashpee). The Reserve is located on the right, 5 miles from downtown Falmouth and 0.5 miles past White's Landing/Edward's Boat Yard, just after the Waquoit Cemetery. From the East:Follow Route 6 to exit 5 (Route 149). Follow 149 South towards Marstons Mills to Route 28. Take a right on 28 North (towards Falmouth). Follow Route 28 around the Mashpee Rotary and continue on 28 North towards Falmouth/Woods Hole. The reserve is located 3.5 miles from the rotary on the left. Directions for Camping at Washburn Island (White's Landing Parking Lot): From the East / Mashpee Rotary: Follow Route 28 north towards Falmouth/Woods Hole. The landing's parking area is located 4 miles from the rotary on the left, next to Edward's Boatyard and just after crossing the Childs River. From Falmouth:Proceed south on Route 28. The White's Landing parking lot is located just under 5 miles from downtown Falmouth (0.5 miles from Mahoney's Garden Center) on the right next to Edward's Boatyard.
