The Gratitude of Maryland State Parks:
SWALLOW FALLS STATE PARK, MD
Breathtaking scenery in Western Maryland! As you meander along the trails through the park, the Wild and Scenic Youghiogheny River flows along the park's borders, passing through shaded rocky gorges and creating rippling rapids. Tall hemlock trees blanket the silent woods. Muddy Creek Falls is a crashing 53-foot waterfall - a dramatic and spectacular sight to see!
Please read what our campers and visitors are saying about Swallow Falls State Park:
Though it was very quiet almost all the time, there was one group of campers who got a bit out of control. The park staff was right on it before we could even figure out who to tell. Love, love, love the hot water in the showers!
We were shocked to see the extent of the destruction of the trees and subsequent devastation of the breeding places of so many species of birds and wildlife at Swallow Falls due to Hurricance Sandy. The trails were unrecognizable in places. Very sad for such a beautiful place. What made us happy was to be able to walk the trail even after such devastation. We realize that this was possible because park staff labored long and hard to rebuild the trails. The thinning of the tree canopy made spotting warblers easier, so there was an advantage for birding.
