Attention: The Wisconsin Department of Transportation will be resurfacing the Hwy 42/57 (Bay view) Bridge in Sturgeon Bay from March 4 until June 30, 2013. There is a detour route through Sturgeon Bay to reconnect to the highway in the northern part of the city. http://www.doorcounty.com/detour
ROCK ISLAND STATE PARK, WI
DescriptionTake the ferry (Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day) to this primitive Lake Michigan island. Stone buildings, built by a wealthy inventor who owned the island between 1910 and 1945, house exhibits.

Alerts and Important InformationFirewood Notice: Currently, firewood is not allowed on Wisconsin State Park, Trail or Forest properties from out of state or from more than 25 miles away from the destination campground. In addition, firewood that has been in a Wisconsin EAB quarantined area is not allowed on properties outside of the quarantined area. Please buy firewood nearby or at the property you are going to. Call the DNR toll-free Firewood Hotline 1-877-303-WOOD (9663) for information before packing for a trip. Park is open 1st come / 1st served all other dates, however, customer is responsible for arranging their own transportation to the island.
The reservation dates, and dates of scheduled Ferry service to the island, are the same.
Rock Island State Park offers primitive, walk-in camping.

Getting There:Located north of Sturgeon Bay, take either Hwy 57 (less congested), or Hwy 42, to Northport (2 miles beyond Gill`s Rock). Take 1/2 hour ride on the Washington Island Ferry to Washington Island. Using the map printed inside of your ferry schedule, drive 9 miles across Washington Island (20 minutes) to the Rock Island parking lot, located at Jackson Harbor on Washington Island. Take the Rock Island Ferry to Rock Island.
The Rock Island Ferry transports foot passengers only, no vehicles and beware of timing!
