PLUMAS-EUREKA SP, CA

Description

Sierra Plumas Eureka State Park is located high on the east slopes of the Sierra Nevada. The 7,400-foot Eureka Peak in the park sits on top of what was once a large body of precious metal. Hardrock gold mining was once the primary activity in the region from the 1850s until the Second World War. The park contains the Mining History Museum that features displays on mining and pioneer life in the area. The 6,700 acre park protects the remains of the Mohawk Stamp Mill and several other buildings. The park features hiking and fishing and, in winter, cross-country and downhill skiing. Hikers can enjoy more than ten miles of trails. No laundry facilities at the park.

There is no kiosk. Check in at Museum, Hours 8am to 4 pm.

Alerts and Important Information

Plumas-Eureka is open year round for day use, however the museum is closed for the winter. The campground is closed for the season and will re-open on May 24th, 2013, thanks to a Donor Agreement with the Plumas-Eureka State Park Association. You can now make reservations with Reserve America for May of 2013. California State Parks owes the Plumas-Eureka State Park Association a huge debt of gratitude. Discount Pass must be presented at the time of check in.

Your DMV Disabled Placard/License Plate does not automatically give you a discount on your campsite. You will need to obtain a CA State park-issued Disabled Discount Pass (DDP) or Distinguished Veterans Pass (DVP).

WARNING: A car may not be sufficient to protect your food and belongings, even if the car is locked up. Bears can break into cars if they smell anything of interest. Metal bear resistant food lockers are provided in each campsite. All food, beverages, and toiletries are required by law to be stored in provided food lockers. The inside dimensions of the food lockers are 33" deep, 48" wide, and 21" high. Violators will be cited. Camp at your own risk! By choosing to enter or camp at Plumas-Eureka SP, you assume the risk of personal injury or property damaged caused by bears.

  • Fees for family sites include entry for 1 vehicle and 1 legally towed vehicle or trailer, additional vehicles will be charged per night at the park.
  • Fees for group site includes 10 vehicles.

Campground has a dump station, flush toilets, and showers.
Campground opening and closing dates are subject to weather.
All sites have fire rings and bear proof storage lockers (inside dimensions are approx. 44" wide, 21" high, and 30" deep) .

    Getting There:

    In the northern Sierra Mountains, in Plumas County. 53 miles northwest of Truckee via State Highway 89, and West of Gray Eagle. (One hour north of Truckee, via CA State Rte. 89; turn on to county road A-14 from Hwy 89 and go 5 miles).

    -OR- One hour west of Reno via U.S. Rte. 395 to CA State Rte. 70 to CA State Rte. 89 south; turn on to county road A-14 from Hwy 89 and go 5 miles.
