DescriptionPine Lake State Park provides a pleasing mix of woodland, river and lake in the midst of rolling farmland. Of special appeal to nature enthusiasts are the ancient white pines, the white-barked birch trees and the rare ferns found along the Iowa River. The park is spread over 654 acres and has two beautiful lakes (Upper and Lower Pine), extensive hiking trails and bountiful fishing. Whether you are here to fish, camp or spend a weekend at the cabins just relaxing by river, the pine-scented air is a pleasing rarity in Iowa.Recreation:Trails There are more than ten miles of well developed trails around the beautiful lake. Walk under 250 year old white pine trees on the southern shore of Lower Pine Lake. A self-guided nature trail starts in the Hogsback Picnic Area and ends near the beach. Trails are marked with points of interest that correspond with trail brochures available at trail heads, the campground and the park office. The Lake-to-State Park Bike Route is a fifty mile route connecting Pine lake State Park and George Wyth Memorial State Park primarily utilizing county highways and established bike routes and paths once inside Cedar Falls/Waterloo. Lake and River Activities The Iowa River also borders a portion of the park and is noted for its fine angling for channel catfish and smallmouth bass. Fishing anywhere at Pine Lake will provide an enjoyable experience. Only electric trolling motors are allowed on the lake. Facilities:Picnicking/Shelters/Lodge A charming stone and timber lodge is located high on a ridge overlooking Lower Pine Lake. Constructed in 1935 by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), Pine Lodge is available to rent for weddings, family reunions and other gatherings or special events. Camping Cabins Nearby Attractions:Bring your clubs and enjoy a round of golf at Pine Lake Golf & Country Club, less than a mile away. Rock-n-Row Adventures coordinates tubing trips on the Iowa River. (Latitude, Longitude):42.37056, -93.07806 42°22'14"N, 93°4'41"W From U.S. Highway 20: Exit U.S. Hwy 20 at the Eldora/Steamboat Rock exit, turn south on county road S-56. Stop at the four way stop in Steamboat Rock and continue south on County Road S-56 for about two miles. The campground will be on the left at the stone portal. The rest of Pine Lake will be on both sides of the road before you reach state Highway 175. Hwy 175: From Eldora on Hwy 175 on the east edge of Eldora, turn north on the first left through the stone portals on S-56. Lower Pine Lake will be on your right. The cabins and the Iowa River will be on your left. The campground and Upper Pine Lake will be on your right approximately one and one-half miles from Hwy 175 on County Road S-56.
