All trash must be packed out of the site.
The road marked "private" and "no horses" is a private residence. Do not enter this road.
To minimize impact on the environment, utilize a camp stove for cooking.
Maximum number of occupants is 8 persons per campsite.
Please keep all tents on the pad to avoid compacting soil.
You must provide your own canoe. Private businesses near the park rent canoes but the park does not.
These campsites are on the south side of the Yadkin River, 20 driving miles south of the Mountain Section.
The sites are located in a field above the bridle ford on the right (south) bank of the river, across from the Islands. The distance to the site is approximately 4000 feet from the Shoals Road Canoe Launch. Follow the chanel to the right bank once you see the large islands in front of you and after you pass the mouth of Hall Creek.
Any cars that must be parked in area parking lots overnight must leave a note in the windshield with contact information for park staff. Unattended vehicles that are left in parking lots when the park closes are subject to towing.
During periods of storms or high water the campsite may be unavailable. If you are caught in a storm while camping, water levels on the Yadkin may rise quickly. Secure your canoes and head to high ground.
Pilot Mountain State Park does not own or maintain downstream or upstream accesses on the Yadkin River. These access are operated by Yadkin County and Forsyth County. These accesses have lost funding in recent years and may or may not remain open in the near future. Hwy 601 is the closest public upstream access 17 miles upriver. Donnaha Park is the closest access 6.9 miles down river, approximately a 3.5 hour paddle. Old Hwy 421 access is the next closest access 13 miles downstream. These long distances will require planning to avoid being caught on the river after dark. Be prepared. Cell phone access is limited and EMS response times are lengthy.
