Find Campsites

PFEIFFER BIG SUR SP, CA

Description

Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park has 1,006 acres of redwood, oak, chaparral, and meadow areas. Hikers can enjoy 8 miles of hiking trails within the park and over 200 miles of trails in the Ventana Wilderness (USFS) which borders the park. Overlooks provide views of the Big Sur Valley and the Big Sur River Gorge. There is no coastal access from this park.

For larger groups, two tent-only, walk-in Group Campsites are available for reservation. These campsites feature a large camping area, picnic tables, flush toilets, and access to one small amphitheater.

When the campground is full, en route camping may be available for vehicles with onboard flush toilets (usually motor homes and trailers). This is from 5 PM to 9 AM, maximum 1 night stay. The fee is the same as the campsite fee.

Fishing in the area is highly restricted. See Department of Fish and Game regulations for fishing information.

The concessionaire-operated Big Sur Lodge offers motel-type cottage accommodations (1-800-424-4787).

Construction: The park construction and renovation project has begun and is expected to be completed by the spring of 2013. Be aware that there will be noise, detours, and delays throughout the park entrance, Big Sur Lodge, picnic day use areas, and part of the campground while the improvements are being completed. Main Camp Sites 1-71 will remain off reservation for a majority of the project to minimize camper disturbance. We thank you for your patience while we improve your state park experience.

Closures: Some areas of the park remain closed due to fire and flood damage. This includes some trails, some picnic areas, and the campfire center.
