CABIN CLOSURE - update May 3, 2013:

Beginning July 15, 2013 thru December 31, 2013, some of the full service cabins (Cabins 1 thru 10) at New Germany State Park may be closed during these dates as a result of planned renovation projects. Interested persons can frequently check back to see if any cabin may have reopened once work is completed. For additional information, contact New Germany 301.895.5453.


2013 Reservation/Transaction Fees:

In addition to the park facility use fee, there is a nightly reservation/transaction fee. Internet reservations, the per night fee is $4.56. Call Center, the per night fee is $4.61. Walk-In transactions at the park, the per night fee is $4.51. Reservation/Transaction Fees are Non-Refundable.


Cancellation Fee Policy Change-Effective May 1, 2013:

To better serve our Maryland Park Service customers, we are changing our cancellation policy to a reservation cancellation service charge of $6 per reservation; except for Assateague Island State Park, which will remain at $6 per night.

New Germany State Park is one of Maryland's best kept secrets. The park offers forests with ten miles of multi-use trails and a small lake suitable for fishing, swimming, and non-motorized boating. Paddle on the 13-acre lake, hike through dense hemlock forest, or picnic on a lakeside table. The park's full-service cabins offer a comfortable alternative to outdoor camping.

Moon bounces and amplified music are not permitted.

There are no electric or water hook ups in the New Germany State Park Campground

ALCOHOL POLICY:

The consumption or possession of an open container of an alcoholic beverage will be prohibited in all state park areas with the exception of interior areas of full-service cabins and motorhomes.

Alcohol permits will only be issued through a reservation for a designated shelter, or other approved facility. A $35 fee will be charged for each alcohol permit. Permits may be revoked for cause by Park Manager, their designee or a Natural Resources Police Officer.

Internet shelter reservations requiring an alcohol permit will need to contact the Call Center at 1-888-432-2267, Mon-Fri, 8 am - 8 pm to make your reservation.

ATTENTION CABIN RESERVATIONS: PRIOR TO ARRIVAL AT THE PARK, CONTACT THE PARK AT 301-895-5453 (8:30 AM - 4 PM) TO RECEIVE THE ACCESS CODE TO THE CABIN.

PETS ALLOWED on trails year-round(except ski season); day-use area & lake (except for sandy portion of swimming beach area) after Labor Day to Memorial Day weekend.

  • In honor of Memorial Day, participants are invited to learn about the majestic Bald Eagle, and how this bird of prey became our national symbol. Children will have the opportunity to paint a miniature Bald Eagle figure to take home with them. Cost is $2.00 per person. Meet at the Nature Center, next to the Lake House. from May 22 2013 to May 27 2013
  • When was the last time you turned over a rock in search for critters? Join the park ranger for some old-fashioned fun, and learn about some common salamanders found in the park. Cost is $6.00 per family, which includes a free field guide. Dress for the weather (appropriate footwear recommended) and meet at the Nature Center, next to the Lake House. from May 22 2013 to May 26 2013
  • Retired Park Ranger, Rick Lewis, will be presenting "Bomber Down" at New Germany State Park on Saturday, May 25th. This fire-side program will feature the fascinating true story of a B-52 bomber that crashed during a severe snowstorm in Savage River State Forest in 1964. Large pieces of the wreckage will be available to view, including one of the actual ejection seats from the aircraft. The program will take place at 7:30 pm at the Lakeside Amphitheatre outside the Lake House (or inside the Lake House if it rains). from May 22 2013 to May 26 2013
  • Saturday, May 25, 11:00 AM Join the park naturalist on this leisurely hike and learn how to identify some common non-native and invasive plants found in the park.   • Did you know that dandelions have more calcium than milk, ounce-for-ounce? Join the park naturalist at the Lake House and learn more about this fascinating plant, often referred to as a weed. Some delicious dandelion dishes will be available for tasting. from May 22 2013 to May 27 2013
