Alcoholic beverages and fireworks are prohibited. Firearms are prohibited except for with the proper license.
Bear activity. Please take proper precaution with food and other scented item storage.
Pets are allowed except in park buildings, but they must be on a leash no longer than six feet and cannot be left unattended.
Posted quiet hours are enforced. Building fires in undesignated areas is prohibited.
Unlicensed vehicles and motorcycles, golf carts, ATV's and mini-bikes are prohibited with the exception of mobility-aid devices used by a mobility-impaired person. All vehicles are prohibited from walkways, trails and other areas not designated for such purposes.

Mount Mitchell State Park's gate hours are: November-February 8 am - 6 pm. March and October 8 am - 8 pm. April and September 8 am - 8 pm. May-August 8 am - 9 pm.
Campsites are 'walk-in' sites ranging from approximately a 10 yard walk to 150 yards.
No RV sites and no electric. No running water November through April (portable toilet available).
Road conditions can change at any time. Please check weather and road conditions before traveling. Hike at your own risk. Search-and-rescue crews and helicopter support may be unable to reach hiking or backcountry camping parties in bad weather. Do not rely on GPS, cell-phone, or rescue beacon d
North Carolina state park rules and regulations are posted in each park and enforced by rangers. Violating these rules and regulations is a misdemeanor and may result in a fine and revocation of permit.
State vehicle and traffic laws are enforced, and the speed limit is 25 mph unless otherwise posted.
Winter Cautions: Reservations are not accepted November 1 through May 1; camping is available on a first-come / first-serve basis, weather permitting. Road access on the Blue Ridge Parkway can and does close without warning whenever ice and snow are present, and campers may be asked to leave the park. Call 828-675-4611 for current conditions.
North Carolina state parks are wildlife sanctuaries; no hunting is allowed and collecting plants, minerals and artifacts is prohibited. State fishing regulations are enforced.
Due to the variable conditions on Mount Mitchell, all wintertime campers are advised to check the weather and road conditions prior to arranging for camping at Mount Mitchell State Park as the weather conditions change frequently.
Facilities are limited between November and April; wintertime campers will need to pack in their own water, Port-A-Johns are provided.
