Overview

Milltown Campground offers the perfect setting for those wishing to camp in a more primitive style. It is located on the shore of Hartwell Lake in Hart County, Georgia.

Spanning parts of South Carolina and Georgia, Hartwell Lake is one of the largest and most visited public recreation lakes in the Southeast. It comprises nearly 56,000 acres of water and has a shoreline of 962 miles.

Natural Features:

The lake shore is thickly forested with mostly pine, and the lake itself is large with many inlets and coves to explore.

Numerous species of birds call this area home, including waterfowl, shorebirds, woodland birds and even the occasional peregrine falcon and bald eagle.

Recreation:

Fishing is one of the most popular activities at the lake. Sought-after species include largemouth bass, bream, crappie, catfish, striped bass and hybrid bass.

The lake appeals to boaters of all kinds, whether their specialty is canoeing, sailing or motor boating. Coves and areas of quiet water provide water skiers with excellent surfaces.

Swimmers will find sand beaches and designated swim areas along the shoreline.

Facilities:

Milltown Campground has 25 primitive waterfront campsites. There are also three large group camping areas, perfect for parties or family functions.

From Hartwell, Georgia, take Highway 51 north for 4 miles. Turn right on New Prospect Road and continue another 4 miles. Follow signs to the park.
