Overview

Lewis at French Meadows Campground is located on French Meadows Reservoir in the Tahoe National Forest, 40 miles from Foresthill. Visitors enjoy the area for its fishing, boating and trail opportunities.

Natural Features:

The campground sits on the north shore of French Meadows Reservoir in a coniferous forest. Summer days can be hot, although evenings are cool.

Recreation:

Popular activities on the reservoir include boating, canoeing, fishing and swimming. A boat ramp is located within a mile of the campground. The North Fork American River can be accessed nearby and provides fishing and swimming.

A variety of hiking and biking trails are found in the surrounding area, including some that provide access to the nearby Granite Chief Wilderness.

Facilities:

The campground offers single-family campsites, a few of which are accessible. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and a grill. Flush and vault toilets and drinking water are provided. Roads and parking spurs are paved.

Know Before You Go

In accordance with standard industry practices, Tahoe Recreation will be assessing a $5 additional vehicle fee on the "second vehicle" in each single family campsite, and on the "third and fourth vehicle" in any double family campsite, provided these vehicles are not joined to the first vehicle by a hitch and towed onto the site. In the case of motorcycles, the first two are considered to be one vehicle and the third and fourth are also considered to be one vehicle. No additional vehicle fees are collected for bicycles.

This is bear country; food must be stored in provided food storage lockers
First-come, first-served sites may be available
Last minute gas, ice and supplies should be purchased at Foresthill

Take Highway 80 to Foresthill Road. Travel 17 miles east to Foresthill. Turn right on Mosquito Ridge Road and travel 34 miles east to French Meadows Reservoir. Lewis is beyond French Meadows Campground on the north shore of the reservoir.
