Description

Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park stretches from the Big Sur coastline into nearby 3,000-foot ridges. The park features redwood, tan oak, madrone, chaparral, and an 80-foot waterfall that drops from granite cliffs into the The park also has a 1,680-acre underwater reserve which protects a spectacular assortment of marine life. Special-use permits allow experienced divers to explore the reserve. Seals, sea lions and sea otters can be seen in the park's cove. Hikers can discover the park's backcountry via several trail systems.

There is no park kiosk at Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park for fee collection. Campers should register at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park or Big Sur Station

Alerts and Important Information
Discount Pass must be presented at the time of check in.

Your DMV Disabled Placard/License Plate does not automatically give you a discount on your campsite. You will need to obtain a CA State park-issued Disabled Discount Pass (DDP) or Distinguished Veterans Pass (DVP).

  • No dogs allowed on trails or in the campground.
  • No beach access.
  • No running water in the campsites. Porta-toilets are located near the sites.
  • Camping fees include entry for 2 vehicles; additional vehicles will be charged per night at the park.
  • Campers should visibly display their camping reservation receipt on their windshield.
  • This park takes reservations Year-Round.

IMPORTANT: Several trails on the east side of the highway, including the Ewoldson Trail and Tan Bark Trail, remain closed due to unsafe conditions until further notice. All other trails, including the McWay Falls Overlook Trail, Partington Cove, Canyon Falls, and the Tin House fire road, are open to hiking. Please check at the Big Sur Station upon arrival for the latest trail conditions.

Getting There:

The park is 37 miles south of Carmel on Highway One; 12 miles south of Pfeiffer Big Sur.
