Description

Rock Cliff offers visitors the unique opportunity to interact with this beautiful riparian environment. Elevated boardwalks and well maintained trails guide visitors through the upland sage and wetland areas, leading to a breathtaking view of the Provo River as it enters the Jordanelle Reservoir.

Geography:

Rock Cliff Recreation Area: Located on the Provo River two miles west of Francis on State Route 32.Rock Cliff's 100 acres of protected habitat attracts abundant wildlife. Nearly 200 species of birds, including the Bald Eagle, and many small mammals such as mink, fox and beaver find safe haven here. Rock Cliff is also home to a few larger mammals such as moose, deer, elk and mountain lion.

Recreation:

This pristine area provides nature enthusiasts and students alike with numerous possibilities for discovery. Although a part of Jordanelle State Park, Rock Cliff is unique in a variety of ways. Whereas the Hailstone Recreation Area functions as the park's headquarters and major recreational complex, Rock Cliff's major emphasis lies in education, interpretation, and low-impact recreational experiences. The Ross Creek Trailhead is located on the far Northeast corner of the park. The trail provides non-motorized day-use access to the reservoir and the perimiter trail. The trailhead offers parking, restroom facilities and hitching posts.

Facilities:

a Nature Center and boardwalk system were created to protect and preserve the surrounding riparian and wetland ecosystem. To protect this area and at the same time provide a quality camping experience for our visitors, a secluded walk-in tent campground was established, nestled among the beautiful cottonwood/aspen forest found along the Provo River.

  • All tents must be on tent pads, which are 9'x9'. Larger tents cannot be accommodated.


    Walk-in tent camping only. No vehicle access.

Getting There:

From Salt Lake: Take Interstate 80 east to US 40, to State Road 32 east, then take the Rock Cliff Exit.

From Provo: Take US 189 to US 40, to State Road 32, then take the Rockcliff Exit.

Rock Cliff recreation area will be CLOSED from about 5:00PM on Friday, August 16, 2013 until 5:00PM Saturday, August 17, 2013. Day use, campgrounds, and adjacent waters will be closed to the public for the dates listed. Spectator access will be permitted by shuttle or as dictated by the event. The ramp at Hailstone will remain open to the public. Please plan accordingly. If you reserve a campsite for Saturday, August 17, you may not check in prior to 5:00pm.   • September 14, 2013 EVENT - PCSUP Paddle Peddle Paddle Challenge at Rock Cliff The event will take place at Rock Cliff at the ramp, along the shoreline, and on the Perimeter Trail. Athletes will take race their stand up paddle boards, then mountain bike on the trail, then back to the boards to finish. The trail and ramp area will be congested. Please plan accordingly.
