SWIMMING:

The unguarded beaches of Janes Island offer visitors the opportunity to swim in the waters of the Chesapeake, but only at their own risk. Swimming is only allowed on Tangier Sound Side Beaches of the Island and area is accessible only by boat. Must provide your own boat; or kayak/canoe rentals are available at the Park during peak season. No swimming from the mainland park shoreline.

Construction Notice:

Construction of park improvements to Nature Center is scheduled to begin Sept 16, 2013 with a projected completion date of April 8, 2014. During this time period camper registration and limited concession items will be temporary moved to the park administration building (located to the right of the park entrance gate). Other areas of the park that will be closed during construction: Fall of 2013 - campsite A47 and A48. Spring of 2014 - campsites A47, A48, A49, A50, and A51. These sites will remain closed until construction is completed. Other closures affected during construction will be the marina fish cleaning station and the camper trailer storage area lot. NO CONSTRUCTION WORK WILL OCCUR ON WEEKENDS. We apologize for any inconvenience the construction may cause our park patrons. If you have any questions, please call the park office at (410) 968-1565, between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm. Please continue to check website for updates.

PETS NOT ALLOWED IN CABIN OR IN CABIN AREA OF PARK.

CHECK-IN:

  • 5:00 PM. Early check-ins not permitted.
  • During peak season check-in takes place at the park store. If arriving after park store is closed or automatic gate is closed, follow after hours camper arrival instructions to gain admission. Instructions are posted at the automatic gate key pad and at the park headquarters.
  • No one is permitted to check-in after 10:30 pm.
  • Reduced park store hours between October 31 thru November 24; and March 28, 2014 thru April 24, 2014.
  • Camper check-in packets available at park headquarters.
  • CHECK-OUT:
    10:00 AM. Customers will be charged an additional night service charge if the customer is not checked-out on time. Due to recent problems involving unnecessary damages to cabins and excessive cleaning needs, customers will be charged $25-$100 should unnecessary damage be found at check-out or the facility requires excessive cleaning.

    RESTRICTIONS:
    Tents and camping units are not permitted on Full Service Cabin sites.

    ALCOHOL POLICY:

    The consumption or possession of an open container of an alcoholic beverage will be prohibited in all state park areas with the exception of interior areas of full-service cabins and motorhomes.

    MINIMUM STAY:
    There is a 7 night minimum stay from Saturday-Saturday JUNE 14 - AUG 23, 2014. You must reserve for a total of 7 nights. All other times a 2 night minimum stay. Holiday weekends (May 1 - September 30) will require a 3 night minimum stay.

    2015: 7 night minimum stay, June 13 - August 29, 2015

    FIREWOOD RESTRICTION:
    Due to the potential threat of the Emerald Ash Borer, the Maryland Department Natural Resources has prohibited the importation of personal firewood into all DNR owned and managed properties. Please do not bring firewood with you from home when visiting a DNR property.

    INSECT NUISANCE:
    Insects may be a nuisance at certain times of the year. Gnats, biting flies, mosquitoes, and ticks may be a problem during the spring, summer and fall. The park is located in a forest environment which could result in a problem with wood roaches, crickets, and mice.

    QUIET HOURS:
    Quiet time will be maintained in the campground from10:00 pm to 7:00 am.

    PRICING:
    Prices are subject to change without notice and reservation fees, as well as cancellation fees are non-refundable.

    IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
    Cabins are open year round. Each cabin is located along the canal with three docks shared by the four cabins and the conference center. No mooring at docks. Beach area accessible by boat only.

    The bathroom Tub/Shower in Cabin 1 has limited ADA accessibility as the cabin is not certified 100 percent. Updated changes are planned for the fall/winter of 2013/14.

    GENERAL INFORMATION:
    Each cabin is equipped with a bathroom, fireplace w/gas logs, heat and air conditioner, screened porch, refrigerator, stove, microwave, cooking/eating utensils for six, coffee pot, toaster, hot water, 2 single beds in 2 bedrooms & loft, and a double bed in the 3rd bedroom. Bed linens, blankets, and pillows are not provided. Cabin 1 and 4 are equipped with stairs, and cabins 2 and 3 are equipped with a ladder to access the loft. Bedroom floors are carpeted; common areas have laminate floors.
