Description

Hanging Rock has trails to waterfalls and rock outcrops overlooking mountains and the piedmont. There are 18 miles of hiking trails and access to horse trails. Swimming and boating is available on the lake in season. Fishing is available year round on the lake and Dan River. Access to Dan River for boating and tubing is nearby. Other outdoor recreation opportuities surround the park in Stokes County. Old Salem, Pilot Mountain State Park, and the Blue Ridge Parkway are less than an hour's drive.

Alerts and Important Information

The park gate locks at night. There is no provision for arrival or leaving during closed hours. Emergency information is provided at registration. The park gate opens at 8 A.M. and closes:
May - August: 9 P.M.
March - April & September - October: 8 P.M.
November - February: 6 P.M.

Check-in is at the campgrounds for campers or visitor center for cabins. Check-in time is 4 P.M. Early check-in is allowed if the campsite is vacated or if cabin cleaning is finished.

From Walnut Cove, NC take Hwy 89 west to Danbury. Turn left at Pioneer Hospital on Hanging Rock Park Road 1.5 miles to the park.

From Winston-Salem, NC take Hwy 8 north to Danbury. Turn left at Pioneer Hospital on Hanging Rock Park Road 1.5 miles to the park.

From King, NC take Hwy 66 north to Moore Springs Rd. Turn right on Moore Springs then right on Hanging Rock Park Road at the park entrance.

From Stuart, VA take Hwy 8 south to Danbury. Turn right at Pioneer Hospital on Hanging Rock Park Road 1.5 miles to the park.
