ATTENTION: Goose Bay cabin is closed due to damage from the 2011-2012 winter heavy snow loading and is not projected to open for the 2013 summer season. Once design and funding is secured repairs will be completed and the cabin will be reopened for public use. To avoid cancellations the cabin will not be available for reservation until work is completed.

ALL (1) OverviewGoose Bay Cabin is open year-round for recreation, relaxation and sightseeing on Prince William Sound. This is a prime spot for winter recreationists, but a variety of activities are offered throughout the year for backcountry enthusiasts.This remote site can be accessed by a 45-minute float plane trip from Anchorage or a boat ride from Whittier, depending on conditions. In mid-November, the bay freezes over, making transportation to the cabin a challenge. Guests are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and must bring several of their own amenities. Natural Features:Goose Bay is at the head of a narrow waterway on the east side of Culross Passage. The cabin is tucked into a small lagoon on the east side of Goose Bay on the western shore of Culross Island. Fragile muskeg, tall grasses and evergreen trees surround the cabin. Views from the front porch reveal a small waterfall and the gentle, evergreen-forested slopes across the bay. Recreation:The area around Goose Bay offers year-round recreational opportunities. Hiking and kayaking are popular summer pastimes. Facilities:The 12x14 foot cabin sleeps 6 and comes equipped with wooden bunks, a table, benches, a propane stove for heat and an outside pit toilet. Getting There:GPS Info. (Latitude, Longitude):60.71464, -148.224 60°42'53"N, 148°13'26"W Boat access: Goose Bay is approximately 25 miles southeast of Whittier in Prince William Sound. From Whittier Harbor, head east out of Passage Canal and across Port Wells. Head south into Culross Passage. Goose Bay is at the head of a narrow passage on the east side of Culross Passage directly across from Long Bay. The cabin is located near a small waterfall on the east side of the bay. Parts of Goose Bay can be more challenging to navigate in low tide, especially the area in front of the cabin, which may get too shallow. High slack tide is ideal for boating. Be sure to check local tide reports prior to your arrival. Access via floatplane is approximately 45 minutes from Anchorage.
