George Washington Campground, RI
Located within the 4000 acre George Washington Management Area, and on the shores of Bowdish Reservoir, the 100 acre George Washington Memorial Camping Area is an overnight, primitive camping facility offering a multitude of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. There are 45 well spaced gravel sites suitable for tents, trailers, and RVs. Electrical hookups are not available; water is available from the various shared spigots throughout the campground. Bathrooms are either outhouses or pit toilets, there are no shower facilities. There are two Adirondack style Shelters available by reservation, for group camping (limited to 20 persons each).
There are also five 12'x12' tent platform campsites available by reservation. (Limited to 4 persons and 2 tents each) These sites ( A-1 thru A-5) are located on Angell Loop Trail. These sites require a .6mi hike each way. All camping materials must be carried in carried out by occupants. There is no vehicular access to these sites. Parking will be provided in the main campground. There is no water available at these sites. All tents must be set up on the platforms. All fires must be contained in the fire rings provided.
Pet Policy -The Department of Environmental Management is pleased to allow you the privilege of bringing your domestic pet (limited to cats and dogs only) to overnight campgrounds in Rhode Island state parks. It is up to you, the pet owner, to act responsibly with your pet and to be courteous of other park users.
Requirements for Pets and Pet Owners -No more than two (2) pets per campsite. "Pet" means a dog or cat. The owner of all pets is responsible for cleaning up and proper disposal of all animal waste. All dogs must be wearing a collar with valid license tag. All cats must be readily Identifiable (e.g. tags, tattoos or an ear notch). Owners may be required to show a current rabies vaccination certificate. All pets must be under control at all times on a leash of not more than six feet [6'] in length. Pets shall not be left unattended at any time. The release of any pet within any state park, management area, or beach is strictly prohibited. Pets are prohibited from all state bathing beaches. Owners shall make every attempt to keep their pets quiet at all times, especially between the hours of 10:00 pm and 7:00 am. Washing of pets is prohibited in any natural waterbody. Specific areas within the facility may be posted as off-limits to pet. All escapes, bites to humans/other animals, and contact with wildlife must be reported to appropriate park staff.
In addition to the requirements of this policy governing pets in George Washington State Park, all other applicable sections of DEMs Park and Management Area Rules and Regulations shall continue to be enforced.
Violation of any of the above requirements or any provision of DEM"s Park and Management Area Rules and Regulations may result in eviction from the park/management area and penalties not to exceed $100 for each violation. Violations of RI rabies laws and regulations are considered misdemeanor offenses in accordance with RIGL S4-13-32, and can result in seizure and impoundment of the pet.

The primary occupant MUST be the person to check in and register for the site. The primary occupant of the campsite must be 18 years of age or older and present Driver's License, Passport or Military ID upon check-in. All campers must check in upon arrival and surrender their permit at the end of the camping period.
The person to whom the camping permit is granted shall present personal and vehicle(s) ID, be the occupant of the site and be responsible for compliance of the rules and regulations of the Department of Environmental Management. Full names of campers must be listed on the permit, and only those listed may use the site.
Only one family (immediate family) is allowed per campsite. Non-family groups shall be limited to six persons per campsite.
Tent platform sites (A-1 thru A-5) have a maximum of four people per campsite. Fires must be contained in fire rings provided. All camping materials including water must be carried in .All camping materials including trash must be carried out.
Getting There:Directions From Providence - Take Interstate Route 6 West, to Route 295 North, to Route 44 West. Follow Route 44 West approximately 13.5 miles, the Campground entrance is on your right.
