2013 Reservation/Transaction Fees:
In addition to the park facility use fee, there is a nightly reservation/transaction fee. Internet reservations, the per night fee is $4.56. Call Center, the per night fee is $4.61. Walk-In transactions at the park, the per night fee is $4.51. Reservation/Transaction Fees are Non-Refundable.
Cancellation Fee Policy Change-Effective May 1, 2013: To better serve our Maryland Park Service customers, we are changing our cancellation policy to a reservation cancellation service charge of $6 per reservation; except for Assateague Island State Park, which will remain at $6 per night. ALL (1) DescriptionHistory blended with recreation...This site was once the mountain home of George Alfred Townsend, a Civil War journalist. It features a unique collection of buildings and structures that Townsend designed and constructed, some of which have been restored. A major attraction is a large, stone monument dedicated to war correspondents. The Appalachian Trail traverses this day-use park and passes the monument base. Follow Gapland Road for approximately 3 miles. Park is on top of the mountain. At fork in road, bear left for parking lot.
