CRESCENT LAKE (MN), MN

Description

- 32 wooded, well separated sites
- Immediate access to Crescent Lake - an undeveloped lake surrounded entirely by forested public land - fishing is for walleye pike, northern pike, and muskie.
- Crescent Lake allows motorized use without limit on horsepower, but is most appropriate for small fishing type boats.
- Tables, fire grates, water pumps, and outhouses are provided.
- Barrier-free fishing pier
The crescent Lake Campground is a Superior National Forest Campground. Roughly half the sites have lake frontage. Most of the sites offer at least a partial lake view. The entire campground is heavily wooded with white pines, red pines, spruce, balsam, birch and aspen. This is a quiet campground with an emphasis on exploring the nearby wilderness, enjoying nature, and fishing.
Located 13 miles from the campground, Sawbill Canoe Outfitters is the concessionaire operator and maintains a store with showers, laundry, fishing licenses, fishing bait and tackle, ice, grocery and convenience items, canoe and camping gear rental, and a pay telephone. Although, there are no water, sewer, or electrical hookups at the Crescent Lake Campground, it can easily accomodate large motor homes and trailers--including fifth-wheelers.
Trash and recycling facilities are located throughout the campground. There is a handi-capped accessible water spigot available.

Alerts and Important Information

Campground Rules:

  • Quiet hours must be observed between 10 PM and 6 AM every day.
  • Dogs are welcome at Sawbill Lake Campground, but must be leashed and under control at all times.
  • There is a two vehicle limit for each campsite. Any motorized vehicle is considered a vehicle. Trailers do not count as vehicles. A motorized vehicle on a trailer does not count as a vehicle. One vehicle is included in the regular fee. The second vehicle is an additional fee, equal to half the normal fee. Vehicles can be parked in the public parking lot for free.
  • Cut no green or growing thing.
  • Fires must be contained in the designated fire pits and supervised at all times. Put your fires dead out before leaving your site.
  • Leave your campsite cleaner than you found it. Remove all litter from the fire ring before you leave.

    A warning about bears: keep your food inside a hard-sided vehicle with the windows rolled up tight whenever you are away from camp and at night. Bears are not dangerous to people but they love coolers.

    Go to Tofte, Minnesota via Highway 61 along Lake Superior's north shore. In Tofte, turn north (away from Lake Superior) on the Sawbill Trail (CCHS #2). Follow the Sawbill Trail 16 miles to The Grade (Forest Road 170). Turn right on the The Grade and proceed east for 7 miles. The campground is on your right and is marked by a large sign.
