Apache Junction is the trailhead to adventure! Located just 50 miles east of Phoenix, the desert community is home to the legendary Superstition Mountains and is the gateway to a wonderful outdoor recreational area. With a hometown feel, Apache Junction continues to value and respect the natural environment, with lifestyles and activities everyone can enjoy.

The volcanic Superstition Mountain cliffs rise 2,000 feet, hiding the Lost Dutchman Mine, one of the most storied mines of the West. The Superstition Mountain Lost Dutchman Museum displays the artifacts, history and folklore of the Superstition Mountains and surrounding region.

The Apache Trail is one of the most popular day trips from the Phoenix-Mesa metro area. The trail features miles of spectacular desert wilderness and scenic beauty. Trails originating at the Lost Dutchman State Park take hikers to elevations well over 5,000 feet on trails ranging in difficulty from moderate to very difficult. The Sonoran Desert, pine trees, green grass, Indian petroglyphs, and the famous Weavers Needle are part of the excitement. It is said that Weavers Needle is an important piece of the Lost Dutchman Mine mystery.

Continuing along the Apache Trail, Canyon Lake, the first in a series of lakes downstream from the Roosevelt Dam, features a cantina, the Dolly steamboat, boating, fishing and camping. Tortilla Flat, a stage stop of years gone by, is a great spot to take a break before continuing on to the town of Roosevelt.

It is widely held that the city of Apache Junction has one of the best-rated parks and recreation departments in the state of Arizona, and thats saying quite a lot! Prospector Park, Lost Dutchman State Park, Dinosaur Mountain Park in Gold Canyon, and a rodeo arena and event center are just the beginning.

Apache Junction is also a golfers paradise. Gold Canyon, Superstition Mountain, and the city of Apache Junction are home to some of Arizonas top golf courses. The area recently became home to the Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club, and with the areas two Jack Nicholas courses, hosted the Countrywide Seniors Golf event in 2002 and a LPGA Tournament in 2005. Golf clubs include Apache Creek Golf Club, Mountain Brook Golf Course, Augusta Ranch Golf Club, and Sidewinder at Gold Canyon Golf Resort.

Apache Junction locals and visitors alike enjoy the many festivals and events that take place throughout the year. From the Gold Canyon Treasure Fair in November to the Antique Tractor and Engine Show in March, to Januarys Ozark Jubilee, Superstition Mountain folks have a great deal to share with their visitors.

Close to it all, but far enough away from the hustle and bustle, Apache Junction still has the wide open spaces that people come west to find. With all amenities found locally or very close by, the Apache Junction area is an inviting oasis in the stress-filled environment of today.
