ALL (29) DescriptionCherry Plain State Park is nestled in the woods of the Taconic Valley. The park's 175 acres are a quiet alternative to other parks in the region. The park's setting on Black River Pond features a sandy beach with adjacent picnic grounds and a boat launch. The park also has bridle paths and hiking, biking, and nature trails that serve as cross-country ski trails in winter. Anglers enjoy fishing for bass, bullheads, and pickerel here. A special feature of the park is a Charcoal Kiln Site that can be found by hiking a trail that begins at the southern corner of the main parking lot. The Capital District Wildlife Management Area surrounds the park and offers another 4,153 acres of forested land for outdoor recreation.Geography:Cherry Plain State Park, opened to the public in 1962, is located 19 miles southeast of Grafton and seven miles north of Stephentown, off NYS Route 22. Recreation:Biking, boating, fishing, hiking, hunting, and picnicking are the park's most popular summer activities; winter visitors can cross-country ski. Facilities:The park's facilities include a beach, boat launch sites and rentals, campsites, a nature trail, picnic tables and pavilions, and showers. Each year the campground makes every effort to provide safe swimming opportunities by testing the water and by keeping the swimming areas staffed with lifeguards. Please be aware that if the safety of our swimmers is compromised, due to lack of lifeguard coverage or water quality issues, swimming will be prohibited and therefore cannot be a guaranteed activity. We apologize for this inconvenience as it may occur with little advance notice. When swimming is not available at Cherry Plain, campers may utilize the swimming beach at Grafton Lakes State Park at no charge. Please check back here or contact the park directly for updates and details.
To insure fairness for all NY customers, any reservation with departure dates outside the 9-month Maximum Window can not be changed or cancelled until 18 days after the reservation was made.
Peak season: A person may be the primary site occupant for 14 total days of camping within a 16 day period. S/he must leave the park for 48 hours once they have stayed the maximum number of days allowed before beginning a new reservation. Getting There:GPS Info.
