This site is open Apr-Oct by advanced reservation only. Maud Whalen is a primitive HIKE-IN group campsite (minimum size 11; maximum capacity 75) a 1-MILE HIKE from the Bear Creek entrance, with a shelter, a fire circle, two 8'x10' ADA-accessible platforms, nine 10' picnic tables, one 10' ADA-accessible table, 2 extra-large BBQ's w/shelves, and a drinking fountain with a spigot. Maximum 4 vehicles may drive in once per stay; NO shuttling. NO VEHICLE ACCESS WHEN TRAILS ARE WET; driving on closed trails will result in loss of future access and you will be billed for repairs. 15 parking passes included with reservation; parking availability is set by site capacity; no extra passes will be issued. Passes will be mailed five days prior to reservation start date.

Directions FROM HWY 24: exit Orinda Village and head north on Camino Pablo Rd. Soon after Camino Pablo becomes San Pablo Dam Rd, turn right at the light onto Bear Creek Rd.; park entrance is on the right just past Happy Valley Rd. FROM HWY 80: exit San Pablo Dam Rd and head east through town past San Pablo Reservoir. Turn left at the light onto Bear Creek Rd; park entrance is on the right just past Happy Valley Rd.
