BOATING:
The Savage River Reservoir is adjacent to Big Run State Park. A boat launch area is available for small watercraft, including kayaks, canoes, and rowboats. Gas motors are prohibited. Swimming is prohibited.
RANGER STATION:
The Ranger Station for Big Run State Park is located at New Germany State Park, 349 Headquarters Lane, Grantsville, Maryland 21536. Phone: 301-895-5453. Hours: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, daily.
ALCOHOL POLICY:
The consumption or possession of an open container of an alcoholic beverage will be prohibited in all state park areas with the exception of interior areas of full-service cabins, motorhomes and designated shelters. Permits may be issued upon request by the Park Manager for special events operating under a use agreement.
Alcohol permits will only be issued through a reservation for a designated shelter, or other approved facility. A $35 non-refundable fee will be charged for each alcohol permit. Permits may be revoked for cause by Park Manager, their designee or a Natural Resources Police Officer.
Internet shelter reservations requiring an alcohol permit will need to contact the Call Center at 1-888-432-2267, Mon-Fri, 8 am - 8 pm to make your reservation.

SHELTER USE:
Big Run Savage River Reservoir Shelter is a Day-Use facility only.
PETS:
Pets are permitted and must be kept on lease at all times.

FISHING:
A valid Maryland fishing license is required for individuals 16 years of age or older. License may be purchased at the Ranger Station.
WILDLIFE INFORMATION:
The forest land around the park is home to black bears. They have been known to travel through the campground and picnic area looking for an easy meal. PLEASE do not leave any food unattended.
FIREWOOD RESTRICTION:
Due to the potential threat of the Emerald Ash Borer, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources has prohibited the importation of personal firewood into all DNR owned and managed properties. Please DO NOT bring firewood with you from home when visiting a DNR property. Firewood is available for purchase at the Ranger Station.
TRASH FREE:
All trash must be packed out, bring own garbage bags. Reduce/Reuse/Recycle.
PARK HOURS:
The park day use area is open until Sunset. Visitors using the Shelter must leave by Sunset.
PRICING:
Prices are subject to change without notice. Reservation fees and cancellation fees are non-refundable.

Shelter has 50 parking spaces, electric lights and receptacles. Horseshoe pit; water; and pit-toilets are nearby.
