BELLE ISLE STATE PARK, VA
Status: Open year round. Season Dates
Located in the rural Northern Neck of Virginia, Belle Isle was the first state park to be purchased with funds from the $95 million 1992 Parks and Recreational Facilities Bond Referendum. The 733 acre site is a window to the beautiful lower Rappahannock River in Lancaster County. Waterfront in the area has been developed extensively by private landowners with little public recreational access. This fact made the lower Rappahannock a priority for purchasing land for a new state park. The park has seven miles of frontage on the north shore of the Rappahannock, and it borders Deep and Mulberry creeks. It features diverse tidal and non-tidal wetlands, lowland marshes, tidal coves and upland forests.
Wildlife: The diverse habitats found in the park provide homes to many predator birds, such as blue herons, osprey, hawks and bald eagles. White-tailed deer, turkeys, groundhogs, rabbits, squirrels, moles, reptiles and amphibians. There are eight distinct types of wetlands within the park. These diverse ecosystems make Belle Isle an excellent outdoor laboratory for environmental education. Belle Isle State Park offers camping March 1 to first Monday in December annually, as well as year-round reservations for the Belle Isle Mansion and the Belle Isle Guest House (2-night minimum Labor Day to Thur prior to Memorial weekend, required 7-night weekly stay Monday-Monday during prime season Memorial weekend to Labor Day; guests may CALL one month prior to desired arrival date Memorial weekend to Labor Day to see if there is a 2-night minimum stay vacancy available - 1-800-933-7275 9am to 5pm ET Mon-Fri).Belle Isle State Park comprises 733 acres.

Notice for Campers:
LEAVE YOUR FIREWOOD AT HOME!!One of the most important things we can do to protect Virginia's trees and forest diversity is stop moving firewood. New infestations of tree-killing insects and diseases are often first found in campgrounds and parks. Why? Because people have accidently spread invasive species when they brought firewood along with them. In Virginia, there are numerous counties under quarantines, issued by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, due to an invasive insect pest or disease. These quarantines restrict the movement of firewood or wood by products from certain tree species. Moving firewood in violation of a quarantine is a class 1 misdemeanor and upon conviction, you could be subject to; confinement in jail for up to twelve months and a fine of $2,500.00 or both. For more information on areas under quarantine, go to http://www.vdacs.virginia.gov/news/releases-a/062212eabexpand.shtml
