Beartown State Forest, MA
Beartown State Forest's twelve campsites offer limited amenities (no showers or flush toilets) but the campground is very popular for campers seeking a smaller scale campground with great opportunities for swimming and hiking. The wooded sites are tucked into a gentle slope leading to 35-acre Benedict Pond. A few sites are right on the pond shoreline. Extensive networks of trails, including the famous Appalachian Trail offer visitors a chance to explore the over 12,000 acre forest.
IMPORTANT: MA State Parks prohibits the transportation of firewood into or out of MA State Park Campground facilities. Arriving customers must get their firewood at the campground. Firewood is available for $5.00 per bundle. Pricing may vary at campgrounds with camp stores. Transportation of firewood into or out of MA State Park Campground facilities may result in eviction, or substantial fine, or both.
DCR has instituted a required trail permit for ATV and OHM users at Beartown State Forest. The recreational permit program has facilitated more direct and effective communication between our staff and our ATV and OHM customers and provided valuable information about user demand, the popularity of motorized recreation trails and rider demographic and usage patterns. Trail permits are free of charge and may be reserved up to 60 days in advance via email at: Pittsfield.ATVemail@example.com or by calling (413)358-2172.
