DescriptionBass River State Forest was the first forest acquired by the state of New Jersey in 1905 for public recreation, water conservation, and wildlife and timber management. Lake Absegami, a 67-acre lake created in the 1930's, is the center of the forest's recreational activities and provides an area for swimming and a serene setting for boating and canoeing. A trail through the Absegami Natural Area wanders through a pine/oak woods and a small Atlantic white cedar bogThrough the Carry-In/Carry-Out Program you can help us keep your parks clean and beautiful by carrying out the trash you carry in. Bags are provided throughout the site. Park Hours: Open daily sunrise to sunset Day Use Area (Lake Absegami beach, picnic area, trails): 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Office Hours: Sunday - Thursday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Summer Season Friday - Saturday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Summer Season Pertinent Rules & Regulations: Alcohol is prohibited. Pets, except for service animals, are prohibited from swimming areas & camping areas unless pet friendly sites.Pets must be on a maximum 6 foot leash where permitted. Observe quiet hours of 10pm to 6am. Unduly annoying conduct prohibited. Trash must be placed in recycle or refuse containers or taken with the visitor. Facility must be occupied and vacated as stated on permit. Maximum 6 people per site unless group site. Maximum 2 licensed vehicles on site. Extra vehicles fee applies. Campsite visitors are allowed from 8am to 8pm (day use fees apply). Maximum 14 night stay initially, then up to 40 night total in calendar year. Reservation cancellation fees apply. No refunds to evicted persons. Under age campers must have one adult supervisor to every 9 campers under the age of 18. Adult supervisors must have transportaion available for emergencies. No posting of signs. No person shall damage, move or remove any plant, animal, equipment or structure. Where permitted, metal detectors require a permit. Possession of firearms is prohibited. Swimming is restricted to supervised beaches. Diving prohibited. Coast Guard approved life jackets must be available when boating. Motor vehicles must be licensed, insured and registered. Motor vehicles are restricted to established roads & parking areas. All terrain vehicles (ATV), motorized trail bikes and off-road vehicles are prohibited. Unless otherwise posted, motor vehicle speeds is limited to 35 mph on improved roads and 25mph on dirt, gravel or sand roads. Do not block traffic on roadways, paths or trails. Woodfires in campsites are permitted only in fire rings and fireplaces unless fire restriction is in effect. Fire reulations are dependant on weather conditions and do change daily. Alerts and Important Information The standard Cancellation Fee is the cost of two night's stay or NJ Residents$40.00, Non NJ Residents $50.00 which ever less. 24 hour notice required. There is a GROUP CAMPING MANIFEST FORM required prior to groups arrival. No additional names permitted once you have checked in. In the event the park is closeddue to capacity, no one that is not listed on manifest will be permitted. Only the person listed on camp reservation will be permitted un til we receive the completed manifest. Firewood is not provided at the structures.Reservations can be made up to 11 months in advance. Bass River State Forest also has pet friendly campsites. It is a carry in carry out area. Highway signs areprovided along the route to guide motorists to the forest. WHEN YOU ARRIVE-You must sign for your own site. Have your equipment with you and be ready to camp when you register. Make and license plates of all vehicles must be provided at registration. OCCUPANCY-Limited to 6 individuals per campsite unless group site. Only 2 vehicles permitted on any campsite. Extra vehicles will be required to park in a designated area (additional fees will apply). AGE REGULATIONS-Campsites must be registered and occupied by a responsible person 18 years of age or older. QUIET HOURS-From 10 p.m. until 6 a.m., and are strictly enforced. Violators of this policy may be evicted. GENERATORS- May be used except during quiet hours. If the use of a generator is deemed unreasonably loud by the facility staff then individual use of a generator may be prohibited/limited. FIRES-Must be built in fire rings provided. Only dead and down wood may be used for fuel. No chainsaws are allowed in campgrounds, and cutting down trees, alive or dead is prohibited. The beach is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The snack bar and all beach equipment rentals are available during this period. Each year the campground makes every effort to provide safe swimming opportunities by testing the water and by keeping the swimming areas staffed with lifeguards. Please be aware that if the safety of our swimmers is compromised, due to lack of lifeguard coverage or water quality issues, swimming will be prohibited and therefore cannot be a guaranteed activity. We apologize for this inconvenience as it may occur with little advance notice. Boats requiring gas or oil are not permitted. There are bear in the area. Please keep a clean campsite. Use dumpsters located in campgrounds and do not leave food out. Waterfront access in campgrounds is limited to campers registered in those specific sites. Additional parking for registered campers and their guests is available in the campground for an additional fee. Getting There:GPS Info.
