MONGAUP POND, NYStatus: Closed through Thu May 20 2010 Season Dates Max reservation window: Sat Aug 21 2010 Later Dates DescriptionDescription: Mongaup Pond Campground offers a 120-acre lake, the largest body of water in Catskills Park, outside of the New York City reservoirs. Surrounded by Forest Preserve land, the park offers hiking, snowmobiling. Large, wooded campsites, some on the lake, appeal to campers who enjoy a dense forest environment and seclusion. Swimming in the lake, relaxing in the picnic area, and renting boats are popular pastimes here. To insure fairness for all NY customers, any reservation with departure dates outside the 9-month Maximum Window can not be changed or cancelled until 18 days after the reservation was made. Length Of Stay: A camping permit can only be issued for a maximum of two weeks. From July 1 through Labor Day, only 14 cumulative days of camping can be obtained at any campground. This is to ensure that new campers can enjoy their right to camp. Reservations may not be honored if you have more than 14 days cumulative camping between July 1 and Labor Day at the campground. Handicapped Access Sites: Sites that are accessible to the disabled are for mobility impaired people only. At least one member of the camping party staying on the site must be mobility impaired (for example, in a wheelchair or uses a walker) or the camping party will be turned away at the campground. (continued in Important info and alerts)Geography:Mongaup Pond Campground is located in northeastern Sullivan County. Recreation:Boating, fishing, swimming, and hiking are the park's main activities. During the months of July and August, Environmental Educational Recreation programs are offered, featuring nature hikes, crafts, games, and activities. Facilities:The park has campsites; a picnic area with tables, grills, and picnic pavilions; pay phones; restrooms with showers; a trailer dump station; a recycling center; a sand beach. Most park facilities are handicapped-accessible. Nearby Attractions:The Catskill Fish Hatchery is 3 miles away, on Mongaup Road. Shopping centers, restaurants, and theaters are within 15 miles, in Liberty and Livingston Manor. Golf courses and horseback riding facilities are nearby. An amusement park and ski area can be found at Holiday Mountain, and Monticello Raceway is within easy driving distance. Historic attractions include the D&H Canal Locks, Fort Delaware, Minisink Battleground Memorial Park, Stone Arch Bridge Historic Park, and the Sullivan County Historical Museum. The area contains five covered bridges, and historic Roebling Suspension Bridge spans the Delaware at Minisink Ford. The Upper Delaware National Scenic and Recreational River, administered by the National Park Service, borders Sullivan County on the southwest. WHEN YOU ARRIVE-You must sign for your own site. Have your equipment with you and be ready to camp when you register. The names of all campers staying on a site must be listed on the camping permit when you first register at the facility CHECK-IN TIME-Is from 12:00 noon until 9:00 p.m. Campers must register for their campsite by 9:00 p.m. on the first night of their reservation or the campsite will be subject to re-rental and all fees will be forfeited CHECK-OUT TIME-Is 11:00 a.m. on your departure date OCCUPANCY-Is limited to 6 individuals per campsite and 2 tents or 1 unit of hard wheeled camping equipment and 1 tent. Only 2 vehicles are permitted on any campsite. Extra vehicles will be required to park in a designated area (additional fees will apply) AGE REGULATIONS-Every campsite must be registered and occupied by a responsible person 18 years of age or older LENGTH OF STAY-Your camping permit can be issued for a maximum of 2 weeks. From July 1 through Labor Day, only 14 cumulative nights of camping will be permitted at any campground. QUIET HOURS-Are from 10 p.m. until 7 a.m., and are strictly enforced. Violators of this policy may be evicted GENERATORS-The use of electric generators may be limited to no more than 5 hours per day and fall between the hours of 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. daily FIRES-Must be built in fireplaces provided. Only dead and down wood may be used for fuel. No chainsaws are allowed in campgrounds, and cutting down trees, alive or dead is prohibited. FIREARMS-Are not allowed in campgrounds except during the Fall and Spring hunting seasons. Firearms must not be discharged within campground boundaries at any time ACCESSIBLE SITES-At least one member of the camping party staying on the site must be mobility impaired (i.e. in a wheelchair or uses a walker) or the camping party may be turned away at the campground SWIMMING-Is allowed at campgrounds with supervised bathing areas during designated hours when a lifeguard is on duty. Please note that there may be times when lifeguards are unavailable, and for the safety of our customers these beaches will not be open and swimming will be prohibited. Not all campground locations offer swimming, to inquire please contact the campground directly PETS-Are allowed with proof of a currently valid rabies vaccination. Campers can walk dogs on a leash no longer than six feet as long as the animal is under control. Dogs cannot be left unattended and are not allowed in facility structures, on the beach or in day use areas CANCELLATIONS-To cancel more than 2 days prior to your arrival date cancel online or by calling 1-800-456-2267. To cancel a reservation within 2 days of your arrival contact the campground directly REFUNDS - Will not be issued except in cases of bona fide emergencies. Supporting documentation will be required. Drive 6 miles to DeBruce, turn left onto Mongaup Road, and drive 3 miles to the campground. From Route 17 East: Take Exit 96 and turn right at the bottom of ramp, then left at the stop sign. Turn left on DeBruce Road/County Rte 81. Drive 6 miles to DeBruce, turn left onto Mongaup Road, and drive 3 miles to the campground.
