Description

Buttermilk Falls State Park takes its name from the foaming cascade formed by Buttermilk Creek as it flows down the steep valley side toward Cayuga Lake. The upper park has a small lake; hiking trails through woodlands and along the gorge and rim; picnic areas; and playing fields. The lower park has a campground, stream fed pool beneath a water fall, and playing fields, beyond which is Larch Meadows. Larch Meadows is a moist, shady glen and wetland area, through which a nature trail winds. Park activities, including tours through Buttermilk gorge, are offered weekly from July 4th through Labor Day.

The park's beach, cabins, campsites, nature trail, picnic tables and pavilions, playground, playing fields, showers, and waterfalls are accessible to everyone.

Alerts and Important Information

The swimming area is schedule to open the 3rd week of June. Please check back here or contact the park directly for further updates and details.

To insure fairness for all NY customers, any reservation with departure dates outside the 9-month Maximum Window can not be changed or cancelled until 18 days after the reservation was made.

  • During non-peak season, there is a 2 night minimum for campsites and cabins.
  • During peak season, there is a 2 night minimum for campsites, and a 1 week minimum for cabins.
  • There is always a 2 week maximum for both campsites and cabins.
  • Reservations for cabins can only be made Saturday to Saturday during the peak season.
  • 2 sleeping tents max or 1 camping unit and 1 small tent, 6 people per site. No tents in cabin area. These rules are strictly enforced.
  • The cabins are rustic and no bedding, cookware or heat is provided.

Portable heaters of any kind are NOT permitted

PETS

  • Pets must have current rabies certificate.
  • Pets must be on leash and not left unattended.
  • Pets are NOT permitted in the swimming area.
  • Peak season: A person may be the primary site occupant for 14 total days of camping within a 16 day period. S/he must leave the park for 48 hours once they have stayed the maximum number of days allowed before beginning a new reservation.
